Microsoft announced at BUILD 2019 that Word Online will become the “AI-powered power editor in the cloud”.
The new functions, which Microsoft has published under the collective term “Ideas”, are intended to help users create complex texts that are better structured and easier to understand. The artificial intelligence of the cloud solution should be able to understand even complicated formulations and nested sentences in order to make appropriate suggestions for improvement. Thanks to AI help, the structuring and formatting will also be done automatically in the future. PowerPoint Designer, which has long had AI-based design suggestions for presentations, already provides a preview of this.
In addition to the creators of documents, Word Online will also support readers in the future, for example by displaying the approximate reading time of a text. In addition, abbreviations and technical terms are to be explained by automatic links.
The rollout of the final version will take place in autumn 2019, the preview version will be presented in June. In addition, the so-called “Inline Tasks” will be introduced in summer, which allow to mark persons within documents with an @Name mention in order to distribute tasks.
