Last year, Motorola returned with the mid-range smartphone Edge. Now, the company announced the Motorola Edge 20 family, a three-device successor generation that will be available soon.
Powerful features in the top model Motorola Edge 20 Pro
Motorola is attacking the upper mid-range with three new smartphone models. They are called Motorola Edge 20 Pro, Edge 20 and Edge 20 Lite and remind us of manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi in terms of naming. The focus of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro is on the smartphone’s camera equipment. The device is the flagship model of the new series.
Both the Pro variant and the regular Edge 20 feature a 108-megapixel main camera equipped with a 1/1.5″ sensor. It uses Ultra Pixel technology, which combines nine pixels into one large Ultra Pixel to ensure better photos especially in low light.
In addition, the Edge 20 Pro adds an ultra-wide-angle lens, a macro lens, and a periscope-style telephoto lens with 50x zoom. Videos can also be recorded in 8K resolution. New features include, for example, a super slow-motion function as well as the so-called dual-capture mode, which uses two cameras for parallel recordings. The microphone is also said to have been improved to provide better sound while filtering out ambient noise more effectively.
The Motorola Edge 20 Pro features a 6.7-inch Max Vision display with OLED technology that meets the requirements of the HDR10+ standard and offers 10-bit color. The high refresh rate of 144 Hz is also remarkable, which should appeal to mobile gamers in particular.
The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 870, while 12 GB of working memory are installed. With 256 GB of storage, the storage space for apps, pictures or videos also turns out quite lush. In terms of connectivity, the 5G standard as well as Wi-Fi generation 6 are supported.
The manufacturer does not provide any information about the size of the installed battery. However, it should be possible to surf the 5G network for more than 30 hours. Thanks to the 30-watt TurboPower charging, only 10 minutes of charging time should be enough to supply the smartphone with energy for 9 hours. No details have been given about a possible Qi function so far.
Motorola Edge 20 and Edge 20 Lite
Users only have to accept a few compromises in the mid-range Motorola Edge 20 model. This smartphone also supports 5G and relies on the same 108-megapixel main sensor along with additional ultra-wide-angle, macro and telephoto lenses. However, “only” with 30x super zoom. The screen diagonal is also 6.7 inches and the frame rate is also 144 Hz.
The only difference is found in the CPU and the working memory. The Edge 20 uses the slightly weaker Snapdragon 778G, while only 8 GB are available. Motorola installs a 4000 mAh battery that supplies 8 hours of energy in 10 minutes thanks to FastCharge.
The Motorola Edge 20 Lite, on the other hand, is much slimmed down and comes with a MediaTek chipset including 5G support. The display corresponds to the two more expensive models and could set new standards around 350 Euros.
A 108 MP main sensor with ultra-wide-angle and macro vision mode is installed. The working memory is 8 GB, and the battery is even bigger than in the other models of the family with 5000 mAh. There is also 30-watt TurboPower charging here, which is supposed to achieve a whole day of battery life in just 10 minutes.
Prices and Availability
At an MSRP of €499.99, the Motorola Edge 20 will initially appear in the Frost Gray color, while the Edge 20 Lite will be available in Lagoon Green and Electric Graphite variants for €349.99.
