Acer ConceptD Series: New notebooks and desktops with Intel Alder Lake revealed

Acer makes its ConceptD Pro series for Creator fit for the model year 2022. With the ConceptD 5 and ConceptD 5 Pro, the manufacturer presented two new notebooks. With the ConceptD 500 and ConceptD 100, there are also two new desktop PCs that are equipped with 12th generation Intel processors and current Nvidia GPUs.

Acer ConceptD 5 notebooks: mobile power for creative minds

With the Acer ConceptD 5 and ConceptD 5 Pro, the manufacturer presented two new creator notebooks with powerful technology at the “next@acer” event. They are aimed at all those who want to work creatively on the go. With an overall height of less than one centimeter, both notebooks are suitable for on-the-go use and are robust thanks to their high-quality metal workmanship.

Both notebooks are specifically designed for creating large CAD files and other complex digital content. Even videos in 6K resolution and complex 3D animations should not present the notebooks with any serious difficulties.

Inside both notebooks, an Intel Core i7-12700H processor and powerful Nvidia RTX graphics processors are at work. In the case of the Acer ConceptD 5, the manufacturer installs an RTX 3070 Ti, while the Pro model (CN516-73P) uses the even more powerful Nvidia RTX A5500. They are supported by up to 32 GB LPDDR5 SDRAM and a PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD of up to 2 TB.

High-resolution OLED panels

For the display, both Acer ConceptD 5 notebooks rely on high-resolution WQUXGA (3,840 x 2,400 pixels) OLED displays with 400 cd/m² brightness. It covers the DCI-P3 color space completely and offers Pantone Matching, HDR and a Delta 2<E color accuracy. Here, Acer also relies on the now common 16:10 format.

The ConceptD 5 series features the most powerful battery Acer has ever installed in a ConceptD notebook. The 99.98 Wh lithium polymer battery now offers a higher maximum performance of up to 11 hours.

Effective and quiet cooling is also provided by the notebooks’ specially developed thermal design. The vents are placed to create an aerodynamic airflow inside the device, while three fans reduce noise levels to less than 40 dBA.

What ports do you need?

Creators need ports. Conveniently, the ConceptD 5 notebooks also offer a few ports. Thus, there is an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD 7.0 card reader, Thunderbolt 4 and several USB Type-C ports that can also be used for charging.

The amber backlit keyboard spans the entire width of the notebook. Thanks to a scissor mechanism under the keys, typing is particularly comfortable and almost silent. The trackpad made of Corning Gorilla Glass has also been improved compared to the predecessor, and is also significantly larger.

A fingerprint reader is integrated directly into the touchpad in the upper left corner and facilitates logging in via Windows Hello. In addition, there are practical shortcut keys that can be used to take screenshots, make a color selection or open a desired app at the touch of a button.

Acer ConceptD 500 Desktop

Those who prefer to work stationary should take a closer look at the Acer ConceptD 500 Desktop, which comes in a minimalistic and modern design. We were already able to lay our hands on the computer ourselves and were absolutely taken with the compact 20-liter tower with amber lighting.

Features include a 12th generation Intel Core i9 processor and optionally an Nvidia T1000 or RTX A200, 3060 Studio and 3070 Studio GPU. Add to that up to 128 GB of DDR4 3200 RAM and up to 2 TB of M.2 Gen 4 SSD storage in combination with an additional up to 4 TB of HDD storage space.

The vents on the front of the ConceptD 500 provide efficient cooling and keep the system very quiet at less than 40 dBa. Numerous ports for peripherals are easily accessible on the back and front of the unit.

Files can be transferred quickly via a USB Type-C port (10 Gbit/s) or an integrated SD card reader. Internet connection via the high-speed LAN port with speeds of up to 2.5 Gbit/s is fast and secure.

Acer ConceptD 100 Desktop: The little brother

Even smaller is the Acer ConceptD 100 Desktop, which the manufacturer says is aimed at small to medium-sized graphic design studios. The compact computer in the classic white design already looks very chic. The minimalist white look with rounded edges, a wood-look finish and the amber light bar on the front make for an elegant and modern look.

The 100 is equipped with Intel Core i5 or i7 processor of the 12th generation and an Nvidia T400, T1000 or RTX A2000 GPU. Add to that up to 128GB of DDR4-3200 RAM to a 2TB 7200 RPM HDD and up to 2TB M.2 PCI-e/Gen 4 SSD.

Particularly practical: The front already accommodates some of the ports, many more ports are found on the back. For example, a USB Type-C port (10 Gbit/s), an SD card reader and high-speed LAN with speeds of up to 2.5 Gbit/s are offered. Cooling is also provided via openings on the front here.
