Acer Swift Edge: Lightweight 16-inch OLED notebook unveiled

With the Acer Swift Edge, the manufacturer claims to have presented the world’s lightest 16-inch notebook with an OLED screen. It is primarily designed for mobile productivity applications and hybrid work and weighs just 1.17 kg.

The Acer Swift Edge in detail

With the Acer Swift Edge, the manufacturer has introduced an exciting and, above all, lightweight new notebook, which is equipped with an OLED display and is launched as an alternative to the light and compact LG Gram.

Unlike LG, however, Acer also uses AMD processors from the AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 and Ryzen 6000 series. With around 1,170 grams, the Acer notebook is also minimally lighter than the LG counterpart from 2022, which still weighs 1,199 grams and also only relies on an IPS panel.

In contrast, the Acer Swift Edge (SFA16-41), as the full name suggests, features a 4K OLED display with a 100% DCI-P3 color space coverage and a peak brightness of 500 nits. Narrow display edges and a screen-to-body ratio of 92% are also offered. VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 for rich contrasts and an eye-friendly TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe certification are also offered.

Many connections and technical details

With a thickness of 12.95 mm, the Acer model also fits comfortably in a backpack or pocket and is also supposed to turn out extremely robust thanks to the magnesium-aluminum case. In terms of ports and connectivity, the Acer Swift Edge is also well positioned.

HDMI 2.1, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports and two USB Type-A ports are also available, as well as a 3.5 mm jack and fast Wi-Fi 6E. A biometric login via Windows Hello is also offered. A Microsoft Pluton chip is supposed to provide additional security here by securing the biometric data on the hardware level.

While the press release hardly goes into more detail, the US product page provides additional information. According to this, an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U octa-core CPU with a clock rate of 2.70 GHz is used, and the graphics calculation is done internally via the Radeon chip.

16 GB LPDDR5 working memory and 1 TB SSD system memory are offered. Acer does not mention details about the battery capacity, but generally speaks of a battery runtime of 7.5 hours. Charging is done with a maximum of 65 watts.

Prices and Availability

The Acer Swift Edge (SFA16-41) should still be available in October 2022, at least in the US. It is currently unclear when the notebook will make it to Europe. The price is different, because it has an MSRP starting at 1,499 Euros.
