Adata SE920: External SSD with USB4 should reach speed record

Adata has unveiled an external SSD hard drive that is said to achieve unprecedented speeds thanks to its USB4 interface. As one of the first USB4 SSDs, the Adata SE920 is said to enable a maximum data transfer rate of around 4,000 MB/s and would thus be twice as fast as a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 counterpart.

Details on the Adata SE920 still scarce

However, Adata has hardly mentioned any concrete details about the SE920 so far. Besides the maximum transfer rate, hardly any tangible information is known so far. In addition, errors during the announcement at the Xtreme Innovation event caused confusion: Adata talked about USB4 Gen 2×2 as an interface, which would not allow the corresponding speed.

Rather, USB 4 Gen3x2 has to be used for the SE2920 to even achieve the data transfer rate of 4,000 MB/s. Adata has also not commented on the external hard drive’s other technical specifications or capacities.

Price and availability

Adata is currently targeting a Q1 2022 market launch for the SE920 external SSD. It is not yet known how expensive the model will be and which sizes will be offered.
