Adidas RPT-02 Sol: Bluetooth headphones charges by solar energy even indoors

With the Adidas RPT-02 Sol, the manufacturer has introduced an exciting new Bluetooth on-ear headphones, which is supposed to offer an almost infinitely long battery life thanks to charging via solar energy and also turns out to be particularly lightweight, which promises a high wearing comfort.

Adidas RPT-02 Sol with solar energy

The most important feature in the Adidas RPT-02 Sol marks the so-called Powerfoyle technology. This allows light to be used as an energy source to charge the battery of the Bluetooth headphones. Just as with other solutions such as Urbanista, who recently introduced the Phoenix TWS complete with solar charging, this also works for Adidas not only in sunlight, but also under artificial light sources.

However, the manufacturer does not reveal how quickly and effectively the charge turns out. The Urbanista Los Angeles from last year relies on the same technology. A one-hour stay in sunlight is supposed to be enough for a battery charge that allows three hours of operation. Charging under artificial light is also possible here.

However, the RPT-02 Sol is said to be fully charged in around two hours via USB-C and offers an impressive battery life of up to 80 hours.

More details on the Adidas RPT-02 Sol

The new Adidas RPT-02 Sol also makes quite a splash from a technical perspective. The manufacturer installs 45 mm drivers that have an impedance of 32 ohms and cover a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.

It is also protected against dust and splash water according to IPX4 and turns out relatively light with a weight of 256 grams. It communicates wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.2 and is supposed to reach a range of around 10 meters.

It is operated with the help of a 5-way control button, which is not only used to turn the device on and off, but also controls music playback. In addition, the RPT-02 Sol is made of 51 percent plastic, which in turn is 87 percent recycled PC-ABS and recycled nylon. The ear pads and internal headband are removable and can be washed.

However, Adidas unfortunately does not reveal which Bluetooth codecs are supported, whether multipoint is available, and other details. An ANC function as active noise suppression does not seem to be part of the game in any case.

Price and availability

The Adidas RPT-02 Sol Bluetooth headphones can be pre-ordered now via the manufacturer’s website and will start shipping on August 23, 2022. The MSRP of the two-tone headphones (Night Grey / Solar Yellow) is 229.00 euros.
