AirPods Max get support for lossless audio and ultra-low latency

Apple has announced that the AirPods Max will receive a software update in April that enables lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio. This update promises an improved listening experience and new possibilities for music production and gaming.

Important new features:

  • Lossless audio in 24 bit/48 kHz: Enables you to listen to music in studio quality.
  • Personalized 3D Audio with Head Tracking: Provides an immersive sound experience.
  • Extremely low latency: Improves the synchronization of image and sound, ideal for gaming and live streaming
  • USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable: Enables connection to various audio sources.

Improved audio quality through lossless audio

With the upcoming update, the AirPods Max support lossless audio with 24 bit and 48 kHz. This preserves the integrity of the original recordings and allows you to experience music as it was produced in the studio. In addition, Lossless Audio is extended to Personalized 3D Audio, which offers a more precise and uncompressed sound experience. Users can now enjoy over 100 million songs in lossless quality via Apple Music.

Benefits for music production and creatives

The update brings significant improvements for music creators. The combination of lossless audio and ultra-low latency allows AirPods Max to be fully integrated into professional workflows with applications such as Logic Pro. With the USB-C cable, the AirPods Max become the only headphones that allow you to both create and mix Personalized 3D Audio with Head Tracking. This allows artists to record and mix seamlessly without compromising on fidelity.

Improvements for gamers and live streamers

Gamers and live streamers also benefit from the extremely low latency of the audio. The delay time is significantly reduced and is comparable to that of integrated speakers on Mac, iPad and iPhone. This ensures a smoother and more immersive experience during games and live broadcasts.

Availability and prices

The firmware update will be available free of charge for AirPods Max with USB-C in April along with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4. The AirPods Max are currently available for 579 euros in five colors: midnight, polar star, blue, purple and orange. Apple also offers a USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable for 45 euros, which enables connection to various audio sources, for example on airplanes or car radios.

With these innovations, Apple is significantly expanding the functionality of the AirPods Max and offering music lovers as well as creatives and gamers an even higher quality and more versatile audio experience.
