Alienware Aurora: New edition of the gaming PC for its 25th birthday

Alienware celebrates its 25th birthday and relaunches the Aurora gaming PC with a case designed for optimal cooling as a present. The “Legend 2.0 Chassis” has been specially optimized in terms of space allocation, ventilation and cable routing.

While only little is known about the installed components of the new Alienware Aurora gaming PC, the manufacturer relies on a completely redesigned case in the so-called open-air design.

While the case has hardly grown on the outside, the manufacturer claims that there is significantly more space available on the inside, resulting in 50 percent more freedom. The case measures 510 x 225 x 589 mm (H × W × D) and weighs a maximum of 15.5 kg, depending on the features. It is offered in the colors “Lunar Light” and “Dark Side of the Moon”.

Compared to the current version of the Alienware Aurora, a cooler and quieter operation is possible. Furthermore, a more direct access to the components is made possible.  Up to four 120 mm fans provide fresh air or exhaust air for the case, whereas the CPU is cooled with an all-in-one water cooling system. Two coolers (one in the front and one in the rear) are used in the basic variant, and another cooler in the front and one in the lid are used in the larger models.

Alienware also offers an optional transparent side panel for the left side, which allows a direct view into the Aurora’s innards. This is of course noticeable in the newly developed dark motherboard with up to eight individually adjustable AlienFX lighting zones.

Aurora gets quieter and cooler

According to Alienware, the combination of a new type of room layout and cooling results in the Aurora operating between 13 and 16 percent quieter than the current Aurora R12, depending on configuration. The new generation is still 9 percent quieter under load, and even 13 percent quieter with an overclocked CPU of 175 watts.

While the technical features of the new edition are still unknown, Alienware at least specifies an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 as the maximum configurable graphics card. According to the manufacturer, it should achieve a five percent higher performance in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark in the new case than in the current Aurora R12.

When the new edition of the Alienware Aurora will be released is currently still unclear. Currently, there is talk of an availability in “late fall 2021”. The prices will be available in the Alienware online shop from the market launch.
