Alienware AW520H and AW720H: New gaming headsets unveiled

Manufacturer Alienware starts the spring with a whole range of new peripherals. Besides two new keyboards, they now also offer two new gaming headsets, the Alienware AW520H and Alienware AW720H, which want to score with strong features and a convincing sound.

The Alienware AW520H in detail

The first gaming headset in the bunch is the cheaper Alienware AW520H. It is operated via USB or 3.5 mm jack using the included adapter and wants to score with Hi-Res sound and 3D audio via Dolby Atmos on the PC.

The 40 mm drivers promise a rich and clear sound and cover a fairly high frequency response from 20 Hz to 40,000 Hz – with an impedance of 32 ohms.

The built-in boom microphone also has an AI-supported noise cancellation technology, thanks to which ambient noise should be effectively blocked out.

Of course, there is also an AlienFX RGB lighting, which can be synchronized with the PC via the Alienware Command Center and illuminates the alien head on the outer sides of the ear cups. The area around the microphone also glows red when the mic is muted.

A high wearing comfort is promised by the 45 mm wide headband including soft memory foam ear pads with fabric surround.

The Alienware AW520H with cable weighs 337 grams and thus ranks in the midfield in terms of weight. The cable itself has enough room for freedom of movement with a length of two meters. The headset is offered in the colors Dark Side of the Moon (black) and Lunar Light (white).

Alienware AW720H: Wireless and with more features

With a larger feature set comes the Alienware AW720H wireless gaming headset. The design and technical specifications are similar to the AW520H: 40 mm Hi-Res drivers with Dolby Atmos support and a frequency band of 20 Hz to 40,000 Hz, as well as an impedance of 32 ohms are also offered. The boom microphone with AI noise cancellation technology is also the same.

However, there are differences in terms of connectivity and weight, because the Alienware AW720H can be connected either wired via a 3.5 mm jack or wirelessly using the 2.4 GHz wireless receiver.

The battery is said to provide up to 30 hours of battery life. Charging is also quite fast via USB Type-C and fast charging. In just 15 minutes on the power, the gaming headset should be fully charged again for 6 hours of playtime.

Prices and availability

Both the Alienware AW520H and Alienware AW720H gaming headsets are launching in China first and are expected to be available worldwide in the coming months.

The AW720H kicks things off and will be available worldwide starting March 31, 2023. According to the manufacturer, the price is an MSRP of $159.99, which can probably be converted 1 to 1 into Euros. The Alienware AW520H, on the other hand, will have to wait until May 19, 2023, when it will be available directly from the manufacturer at an MSRP of $99.99.
