So far, amaran has been best known for its LED video lights, which Aputure fans use to light their sets. Now, the brand is entering the audio market for the first time: The amaran Mic is a wireless desktop microphone for streamers, podcasters, and anyone who wants clean sound without an audio interface or driver installation. The starter kit costs $99 and is available now; a boom arm accessory will follow in the fourth quarter of 2026.

In a nutshell:

  • The first microphone from the lighting brand amaran, which spun off from Aputure as an independent company in 2024
  • 30-mm capsule with supercardioid polar pattern, 86 dB signal-to-noise ratio, up to 130 dB sound pressure level
  • Wireless via 2.4 GHz radio (up to 50-meter range) or via a standard USB-C cable
  • Three noise-cancellation levels, including an AI mode for irregular background noise
  • Up to 60 hours of battery life in continuous use
  • Desktop Stand Kit: $99, available now. Boom arm variants will follow starting in Q4 2026
  • An official EU distributor or Euro price has not yet been announced

What is the amaran Mic?

Under the slogan “Create Out Loud,” amaran is positioning the Mic as an entry point into a new product category. Until now, the brand—which emerged from lighting manufacturer Aputure—has exclusively offered LED panels and light modifiers such as the amaran 200x or 300c. With the Mic, the company is expanding its ecosystem into audio for the first time, apparently with the goal of supporting creators not only with image quality but also with sound quality.

According to the product page, the target audience includes content creators, streamers, podcasters, and anyone who records at their desk without connecting a separate audio interface. The microphone is designed to work directly via USB-C with a computer or smartphone, featuring plug-and-play functionality without the need for additional drivers.

Noise cancellation and controls directly on the microphone

The amaran Mic offers three levels of noise reduction: “Original Sound” delivers the unprocessed signal, “Standard Noise Reduction” filters out consistent background noise such as fans or air conditioners, and AI mode is designed to also handle unpredictable disturbances, such as sudden ambient noise. It’s too early to say how well the AI noise reduction works in practice without conducting our own test.

All key functions can be controlled directly on the microphone: volume, headphone monitoring for zero-latency listening, mute, and the noise reduction mode. An LED indicator shows the current level. Anyone who prefers to manage their setup entirely through software is already familiar with this principle from microphone configuration programs.

Wireless or Wired: Connectivity and Battery

The amaran Mic can be connected directly to a computer or smartphone via a USB-C cable, or used completely wirelessly via the included 2.4-GHz wireless receiver. The range of up to 50 meters with a clear line of sight should be more than sufficient for most home and streaming setups. According to amaran, the battery lasts up to 60 hours, so even multi-day podcast marathons shouldn’t be a problem without having to plug in the charging cable in between.

Accessories: Desktop Stand, Boom Arm, and the amaran Desktop App

The Desktop Stand Kit includes a detachable tabletop stand. If you’d prefer to position the microphone closer to your mouth using a swivel arm, you can later opt for the Low-Profile Boom Arm—either as a separate kit for $125 or individually for $49. According to amaran, both versions are not expected to be available until the fourth quarter of 2026.

Price and Availability

The Desktop Stand Kit costs $99 and, according to amaran, is available now via amarancreators.com and authorized retailers. The two boom arm options are expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2026. For the German market, there is currently neither an official price in euros nor confirmation of when—or if—the amaran Mic will appear at local specialty retailers like Thomann or on price comparison sites like Geizhals; currently, only the well-known amaran lights are listed there. So, if you don’t want to wait, you’ll have to order directly from the U.S. for now and factor in shipping and import duties.

Context: amaran’s Move from Lighting to the Audio Business

At second glance, the fact that a lighting manufacturer, of all companies, is entering the microphone business is less surprising than it sounds. amaran split from Aputure in 2024 and has since operated as an independent brand more tailored to creators. For many streamers and podcasters, video and audio go hand in hand anyway; those who have already invested in lighting might as well stick with the same manufacturer for their next purchase. Whether the amaran Mic can hold its own against established wireless microphones in a similar price range remains to be seen in independent tests; in any case, the combination of wireless technology, long battery life, and direct controls on the device looks solid on paper.

Conclusion

With the amaran Mic, amaran is launching a fully equipped entry-level package for wireless desktop audio: decent core specifications, AI-powered noise cancellation, and a fair starting price of $99. The biggest drawback for German buyers right now is the lack of EU availability. Those who already have amaran lights on their shelves should still take a close look at this product; newcomers, however, should wait for a direct comparison with established streaming microphones.
