Zepp Health is rolling out a comprehensive, free software update for the Amazfit Balance 2. The update, which is just over 23 megabytes in size, upgrades the firmware to version 6.2.208.7 and brings Zepp OS 6 to the smartwatch for the first time. According to the manufacturer, the update is already being rolled out to a larger group of users. Here in Germany, too, the first owners are reporting that they’ve received it via the Zepp app.
New UI and More Workout Details
The central feature of the update is a redesigned, sportier interface intended to provide smoother operation and better visual feedback. According to the changelog, Zepp Health has also improved the tracking of athletic activities. The algorithm for breaststroke swimming has also been adjusted.
Manual pauses are now supported, and workout details can be organized more clearly into swimming and rest segments. The equivalent pace—the running speed normalized to a flat course—is now available as a separate data field. Additionally, the map management feature has been revamped.
FTMS Rowing Machines and Apple Health Sync
With the new firmware, the Balance 2 will now also support rowing machines that comply with the FTMS standard, such as the Concept2 RowErg. Users will then be able to track performance data directly on the smartwatch—a significant upgrade for owners of these devices. In addition, there are improvements to the workout library, workout calendar, and sports equipment management.
iPhone users will also benefit from the fact that heart rate variability data can now be synced with Apple Health—a feature that was previously reserved for iOS-native wearables. The Amazfit Balance 2 is thus part of a whole series of software updates with which Zepp Health is enhancing its product lineup.
Just recently, for example, the more affordable Amazfit Active Max also received new Zepp OS features. The update can be installed as usual via the Zepp app; anyone who has already received an older blood pressure measurement update should be automatically offered the new version.
