The Amazfit Bip Max is getting a new software update from its manufacturer, Zepp Health. This affordable yet well-equipped smartwatch, which we previously featured when it was announced, is now expanding its feature set with several practical new additions.

From BioCharge to HybridCharge

As reported by Notebookcheck, the update—which is approximately 15.41 megabytes in size—upgrades the firmware to version 3.12.03. The biggest conceptual change: With the new version of Zepp Flow, BioCharge is now called HybridCharge. This reflects an approach also adopted by other manufacturers, such as Garmin, to summarize the body’s energy reserves into a single, easy-to-understand value. The calculation takes into account, among other things, sleep quality as well as the physical and mental strain caused by daily life and training.

Voice Notes and a Revamped Morning Report

In addition to the name change, the update brings two other practical new features. The Morning Report, which provides information on sleep quality and the weather, among other things, has been expanded. Additionally, you can now record voice memos during a workout—a handy feature for capturing spontaneous thoughts right during your workout, rather than forgetting them after your workout.

Impressive Features for Around 100 Euros

With its features, the Amazfit Bip Max clearly exceeds what one would expect in this price range. The AMOLED display reaches a peak brightness of up to 3,000 cd/m², a level usually reserved for premium models like the Apple Watch Ultra. It also features 4 GB of internal storage for offline music and maps, as well as a battery life of up to 20 days. The smartwatch is currently available on Amazon for around 100 euros. If you’re looking for even more offline map features and a more rugged design, the slightly more expensive Amazfit Active Max—which we’ve already tested extensively—is an exciting alternative.

Conclusion

Even though the latest update isn’t a major functional leap, it shows that Amazfit is continuously improving its affordable smartwatches. For Bip Max owners, updating via the Zepp app is definitely worth it, if only for the new voice memo feature during workouts.
