With the Amazfit T-Rex 2, manufacturer Zepp Health has officially unveiled the new edition of its affordable and robust outdoor smartwatch. The most important innovations include a 1.39-inch AMOLED display, longer battery life and over 150+ different sports modes.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 makes a mighty leap
With its predecessor, Zepp Health created a rugged and high-quality outdoor smartwatch at an affordable price. The new edition with the name Amazfit T-Rex 2 directly follows on from this and improves the first generation in all respects.
It is particularly robust according to the military standard MIL-STD 810G and can work in temperatures between -40 degrees Celsius and +70 degrees Celsius. The battery, on the other hand, should only be used down to a maximum of -30 degrees°. Moreover, thanks to 10 ATM water resistance, it is suitable for showering, bathing, washing hands, swimming and snorkeling on the surface.
In terms of design, the T-Rex 2 differs from its predecessor only in nuances. The battery is also larger. It now has a capacity of 500 mAh and is supposed to last up to 24 days during normal use. It can still last 10 days in heavy use and even up to 45 days in energy-saving mode. Charging takes about two hours via magnetic Pogo pin.
Larger AMOLED display leads to more weight
The AMOLED display of the Amazfit T-Rex 2 has also been enlarged. It now has a diagonal of 1.39 inches and a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, i.e. 326 PPI. According to the manufacturer, the brightness is 1,000 nits.
Thus, the 47.1 x 47.1 x 13.65 mm smartwatch comes to 66.5 grams. The strap is made of silicone and is suitable for lengths between 140 mm and 205 mm. The body of the watch is made of polymer, and the touchscreen is made of unspecified glass. Otherwise, the wearable has four dedicated buttons for operation.
Features include Bluetooth 5.0, as well as all the important sensors. In addition, there are dual-band and 5-satellite positioning for pinpoint accuracy, a built-in compass and an altimeter. The T-Rex 2 has a few aces up its sleeve when it comes to real-time navigation. If you get off track, for example, the smartwatch will show you the quickest way to get back on the original route.
Comprehensive fitness functions
The T-Rex 2 also leaves little to be desired in terms of fitness functions. Via the Zepp app, stressed muscle groups can be displayed after the workout. In addition, the wearable measures the blood oxygen value (SpO2) and monitors the pulse.
Stress levels and over 150 sports can also be tracked. Eight of them are even automatically detected (outdoor running, treadmill, walking, indoor walking, outdoor cycling, pool swimming, rowing machine and elliptical trainer).
Price and Availability
Listed so far is the Amazfit T-Rex 2 only on the US website and at an MSRP of around $230. A total of four colors are offered: Ember Black, Astro Black & Gold, Wild Green and Desert Khaki. Details about the German launch and prices are not yet available.
