Amazon Echo Buds: High-quality Bluetooth in-ears at a good price

If you are currently looking for wireless in-ears, you should definitely take a look at the Amazon Echo Buds. The small Bluetooth headphones are not only supposed to be more comfortable than the predecessor, but also offer improved active noise cancellation (ANC). Can all that work at this low price? We take a look at the new addition to Amazon’s product portfolio.

Second generation of popular in-ears

With the new Echo Buds, Amazon delivers the second generation of its in-house Bluetooth in-ears. In doing so, the online shipping giant seems to be doing a lot of new and, above all, better things with its update. In addition to better wearing comfort, the new wireless headphones are also supposed to have much better ANC on board. Thus, the updated noise cancellation is now supposed to be able to block out about twice as much background noise as it was the case with the predecessor. Considering the low price of the headphones, the competition definitely has to worry here.

You rarely see such consistent revisions as Amazon delivers here in this market segment. The new Echo Buds are a fifth smaller than the first generation. Not only the narrower dimensions, but also the rest of the design should ensure that the headphones sit better in the ear. The manufacturer does not only expect a much better comfort from this. On top of that, pressure equalization of the auditory canal is to be ensured.

Nervous fingerprints adé

Amazon has also obviously thought along with the material. Unlike their predecessors, the new Echo Buds rely on a matte case. This should prevent fingerprints. Amazon also wants to have revised the sound quality. The sound is supposed to be balanced, which is always a good middle ground. It is not known exactly which drivers Amazon uses. The company only refers to “premium drivers”. However, these should not only enable crystal-clear highs, but also rich basses. Only a test listening will show whether this is just “marketing-speak” or the sound is really convincing. Besides reliable ANC, a transparency mode is also on board. This is to enable a targeted filtering out of certain ambient noises.

Protection against splashing water

The new Echo Buds also seem to be interesting for athletes. For example, the IPX4 certification is supposed to ensure protection against light rain and dripping sweat. Of course, the in-ears can also be used for making calls. The three built-in microphones are supposed to ensure a high call quality. Of course, Alexa should not be missing from an Amazon device.

This should open up some practical possibilities. Only the battery life can’t really convince. With five hours of runtime with ANC turned on, Amazon is only in the mid-range. The case can only provide for two full charges.

Prices and availability

In the US, the new Amazon Echo Buds are expected to launch at an MSRP of $119.99. Those interested in wireless charging will face an MSRP of $139.99 for the corresponding version with Qi support. We do not yet know when and at which prices the new in-ears will be released in Germany.
