Amazon Kindle and Kindle Kids 2022: With USB-C, brighter display and double the memory

Amazon is relaunching its popular e-book readers Amazon Kindle and Kindle Kids in a 2022 version, having already updated the Fire 7 and Fire 7 Kids tablets in May. In the process, the models are getting lighter, while the regular Kindle comes with a 330 ppi display and a USB-C charging feature along with longer battery life.

Amazon Kindle 2022: Brighter, more modern, lighter

The popular Amazon Kindle e-book reader is getting an upgrade. The lightest and most compact Kindle to date, it offers premium features at an affordable price, including a high-resolution display measuring 6 inches diagonally with 300 ppi – three times as many pixels as the previous generation.

Display specifications are shared by the new Kindle and Kindle Kids, and both screens are also anti-reflective to improve readability. The dark mode and adjustable front light make for a pleasant reading experience in all lighting conditions.

Thanks to X-Ray, it is also possible to get additional information about people and places in books. Offered is also an integrated dictionary, while setup is even faster via the Kindle app for iOS and Android.

New port

Also new is the charging option via USB Type-C, which gives the Amazon Kindle and Kindle Kids 2022 a more modern look. The battery life is also improved and should now be up to six weeks, according to the manufacturer.

Furthermore, 16 GB of storage space is offered, which is double that of the predecessor. In addition, both new Kindle devices are said to have become even lighter: the normal Kindle weighs 158 grams, 256 grams including the protective cover for the Kids Edition.

Amazon Kindle Kids 2022: More reading fun for kids

Also revised was the Amazon Kindle Kids 2022, which comes with the same improvements as the normal variant. With its lightweight design, numerous kid-friendly features, and long battery life, the device is perfect for the reading experience, as kids and teens can focus entirely on reading – no games, videos, or other apps can be installed.

In addition to a child-friendly case and the two-year worry-free warranty, every Kindle Kids also includes a one-year membership for Amazon Kids+. This provides unlimited access to over a thousand books.

Hundreds of Audible audiobooks and audio dramas are available on Amazon Kids+, such as Bibi & Tina, Audible Originals like The Kicks and Ghostsitter, and audiobooks on nonfiction topics like 30 Kids Yoga Exercises.

Climate Pledge Friendly

The new Amazon Kindle and Kindle Kids carry the Climate Pledge Friendly seal. It confirms even lower CO2 emissions compared to previous generations of products. The raw materials for both devices have been carefully selected. For example, they contain 90 percent recycled magnesium.

Prices and Availability

The new Amazon Kindle 2022 will be available with 16 GB of memory in black and blue at an MSRP of 99.99 euros and can be pre-ordered now directly from the manufacturer, with delivery starting October 12.
