Amazon is finally making it official: the new Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft are coming to Germany on April 8, 2025. This means that fans of digital note-taking and reading will finally have access to Amazon’s latest e-ink tablets in Germany – the devices have been on sale in the USA since December 2024.
Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft: Prices in Germany
The new Scribe models are Amazon’s most expensive Kindle devices – and they are even more expensive than their predecessors. Here is an overview:
| Model | Memory capacity | Price (DE) |
|---|---|---|
| Kindle Scribe (2025) | 32 GB | 520 € |
| Kindle Scribe (2025) | 64 GB | 570 € |
| Kindle Scribe Colorsoft | 32 GB | 650 € |
| Kindle Scribe Colorsoft | 64 GB | 700 € |
All models come with a premium stylus that does not need to be recharged. The 32 GB version of the previous Scribe cost €440 – the new model is therefore significantly more expensive.

New design: Larger display, narrower edges
Visually, the new models clearly stand out from their predecessor. Instead of the previous asymmetrical frame, both devices now come with a large 11-inch display and evenly narrow edges – more reminiscent of an A4 sheet of paper than a classic e-book device.
With a thickness of just 5.4 mm and a weight of 400 grams, Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft are surprisingly handy for their display size. According to Amazon, a new quad-core processor ensures up to 40 percent faster response times when writing and scrolling. The surface has also been revised: A new texturing is intended to make writing with the pen feel even more natural and minimize the effect of writing “under the display surface”.
Kindle Scribe Colorsoft: Color on E-Ink
The highlight innovation is undoubtedly the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. Amazon uses its own “Colorsoft display technology”, which works with a color filter and light guides with nitride LEDs. The aim: soft, eye-friendly colors without the typical over-fringing that occasionally occurs with color e-ink displays. A new rendering engine is also designed to improve color reproduction when writing – users can choose from ten pen colors, five marker colors and a shader tool.
In comparison, the smaller Kindle Colorsoft struggled with yellow tint problems after its launch – let’s see if Amazon has the teething problems under control with the Scribe Colorsoft.
AI functions and cloud integration
Both Scribe models rely on advanced productivity functions. Documents can be imported directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, notes can be exported as annotated PDFs or transferred to Microsoft OneNote. AI-supported functions are also new:
- Natural search in notebooks: Handwritten notes can be searched using free text
- AI summaries: Documents or chapters are summarized at the touch of a button
- Text conversion: Handwriting is converted into machine-readable text
Those who pre-order now will also be able to secure three months of Kindle Unlimited free of charge.
Conclusion: Kindle Scribe Colorsoft – pure premium
Amazon is clearly positioning the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft as a premium device for frequent writers, students and anyone who wants to combine paper-like writing with color and cloud connectivity. The prices are hefty – 650 to 700 euros for the Colorsoft is no mean feat. However, if you have the budget and are looking for a distraction-free, smart note-taking device, you will get a technically impressive package. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will be available from Amazon Germany from April 8, 2025.
