Amazon Prime price increase 2022: Subscription becomes expensive

The Amazon Prime price increase in 2022 is now also a done deal in Germany. After the subscription prices were already increased in the US, it is now also Germany’s turn. If you pay monthly, the price of 8.99 euros (up from 7.99 euros) will increase. Annually, 89.90 euros will be due instead of the previous 69 euros.

Amazon Prime price increase 2022: So expensive will the subscription

In an “important change to your Prime membership” mail-order giant Amazon informs about the upcoming change, which affects the Amazon Prime price increase 2022. In the US, prices were already adjusted in February 2022. Here, subscription prices increased from $119 to $139.

It is the first adjustment of the price in Germany in five years. On February 01, 2017, the price rose from 49 euros per year to 69 euros per year. Amazon justifies the adjustment primarily by significant cost changes, which are also associated with inflation and “external circumstances that cannot be influenced.”

What does Amazon Prime cost?

The adjustment is made in accordance with clauses 5.2 and 5.3 of the Amazon Prime Terms of Participation. After the Amazon Prime price increase in 2022, the Prime membership fee increased from 7.99 euros to 8.99 euros (incl. VAT) for monthly payment and from 69.00 euros to 89.90 euros (incl. VAT) for annual payment.

From when does the price increase apply?

The subscription price will be adjusted from September 15, 2022. “The change will take effect for you at the earliest when your next payment is due, on or after September 15, 2022,” the mail-order giant writes.

If you want to cancel after the price increase, you can also opt out of the change by canceling your Prime membership within 30 days of receiving this email, free of charge. This is possible, for example, via your membership account or via Amazon customer service.

However, it is important to note that you have to do without many benefits. In addition to free express shipping for Prime members, many other services are included in the subscription.
