Amazon has revamped its entire Kindle lineup for 2026: The Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft now feature a redesigned display with a flush front, thinner and lighter casings, and five new colors. In addition, the Kindle Click introduces a Bluetooth remote control for turning pages for the first time. What the previously leaked marketing images hinted at is now official: Amazon is giving its e-reader lineup its biggest redesign in years.
- New display design with an inverted layer structure and a flush front on all three models
- Five colors: Ube (purple), Alpine Blue, Sea Glass Green, Graphite, and, for the first time, Fig
- The base Kindle is now also available for the first time with an aluminum back and 32 GB
- Kindle Click: Bluetooth remote control for turning pages, priced at 34.99 euros
- Prices range from 154.99 euros (Kindle) to 329.99 euros (Colorsoft Signature Edition)
New design: flush front and recycled materials
At the heart of the relaunch is a newly developed display design with a reversed layer structure—a first for any e-reader, according to Amazon. As a result, the display sits flush with the front of the case, making all three models thinner and more portable than their predecessors. The casing color extends seamlessly from front to back; this is particularly noticeable in the new colors: Ube, Alpine Blue, Sea Glass Green, Graphite, and Fig.
Amazon also emphasizes the origin of the materials: The base Kindle’s casing is made from recycled materials, and the battery is made from fully recycled cobalt. The aluminum version features a casing made from 80 percent recycled aluminum with a matte finish.
Kindle (entry-level model): now also available with an aluminum back
According to Amazon, the new 6-inch Kindle is the most compact the company has ever built. Books are said to open 30 percent faster than on the previous model, and the battery life is up to six weeks. The base model comes with 16 GB of storage in the colors Ube and Graphite.
New this year is a variant with an aluminum back: same display size, same casing, but with 32 GB of storage and a feel that, according to Amazon, appears significantly higher quality. This version is available in Alpine Blue and Sea Glass Green.
| Model | Storage | Colors | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kindle | 16 GB | Ube, Graphite | €154.99 |
| Kindle (Aluminum) | 32 GB | Alpine Blue, Sea Glass Green | €194.99 |
| Kindle Paperwhite | 16 GB | Graphite | €209.00 |
| Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition | 32 GB | Aluminum models | €259.99 |
| Kindle Colorsoft | 16 GB | Graphite | €299.99 |
| Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition | 32 GB | Graphite, Fig | €329.99 |
Kindle Paperwhite: Larger Display and 12 Weeks of Battery Life
The new Kindle Paperwhite remains waterproof but is thinner and lighter than its predecessor and, according to Amazon, lasts up to twelve weeks on a single charge. The display uses a backplane made of oxide thin-film transistors and is said to offer the largest Paperwhite display to date with the highest contrast ratio in the series.
The color temperature can be adjusted continuously, making the device comfortable to read in both daylight and in the evening. The standard version comes with 16 GB of storage in graphite.
Kindle Colorsoft: New Display for Paper-Like Colors
With the color Kindle Colorsoft, Amazon has focused primarily on the display. The light guide technology with nitride LEDs is designed to make colors more vivid and the image brighter without washing out details, while micro-deflectors in the light guide reduce stray light and ensure more uniform illumination.
An oxide backplane with specially developed waveforms is also designed to ensure faster response times for both color and black-and-white content. Amazon’s previous generation of Colorsoft devices had drawn criticism from some buyers due to a yellow cast in the display; the redesigned light guide is likely a response to that issue.
Signature Editions and Kindle Kids
The Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft are also available as Signature Editions featuring an aluminum casing, 32 GB of storage, an automatically adjusting front light, double-tap page turning, and wireless charging via an optional charging dock with pogo pins. All three models are also available in a Kids version, which includes a child-friendly cover and a 12-month subscription to Amazon Kids+ with access to over a thousand books and audiobooks.
Kindle Click and New Accessories
With the Kindle Click, Amazon is introducing its first Bluetooth remote control for turning pages, designed for reading under the covers, on the treadmill, or at a fold-out table on an airplane. It works with all Kindle models manufactured in 2024 or later and costs 34.99 euros. Also available are a magnetic case with physical page-turn buttons for the Signature Editions (79.99 euros) and a charging station with Pogo pin contacts (54.99 euros). Standard protective cases made of fabric or plant-based materials are available starting at 44.99 euros.
Prices and Availability of the New 2026 Kindle Generation
The new Kindle is available now, as is the aluminum model. The Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft are available for pre-order starting today shipping is set to begin on November 11. The Kids versions of the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite cost 189.99 and 239.99 euros, respectively, while the Kindle Colorsoft Kids starts at 309.99 euros. All prices and availability details in the overview above are taken from the Amazon Devices press release.
These prices are thus noticeably higher than what the predecessor models cost before the price increase for Kindle, Fire TV, and Echo in August 2026. With the new Kindle lineup and the Fire TV Stick 4K (2026) unveiled in early October, Amazon is currently launching two major hardware refreshes within just a few weeks.
Conclusion
With the new 2026 Kindle generation, Amazon is responding to what had already become apparent since the leak in September: a comprehensive redesign across the entire product line rather than individual model updates. The flush display, the aluminum version of the entry-level model, and the revised lighting design in Colorsoft seem to address the most obvious criticisms of the predecessors. Whether the new features feel as good in everyday use as they do on paper remains to be seen in testing.
