Amazon’s latest TV Stick comes with revised remote control

Amazon has launched its latest Fire TV Stick at an MSRP of 40 Euros. The stick itself does not surprise with any great innovations. However, the remote control is a different story. The online mail-order giant has added typical shortcut buttons, which we already know from the majority of current smart TVs. Buttons of the biggest streaming providers Netflix, Disney+ and of course Amazon’s own streaming service Prime Video are also included.

Availability since April 14

In advance, Amazon didn’t make a big fuss about its new Fire TV Stick. Yet the popular TV Stick with a modernized remote control has been available in the online store since April 14. Delivery is scheduled for the end of April. This makes the TV Stick the first device from the Fire TV series to come with the revised remote control. However, we can probably assume that the new generations of the other Fire TV devices will also come with the corresponding remote control. If you don’t want to wait that long or have just bought a new TV Stick, you can also order the new remote control separately. However, you will have to accept a long waiting period. Amazon itself speaks of a delivery time of just under two months.

Questionable pricing

If you take a look at the individual prices, you have to question Amazon’s sales strategy. For example, the latest TV stick comes with an MSRP of 40 euros. The remote control alone, on the other hand, is supposed to cost as little as 30 euros. If you don’t want to wait for the single remote control, you could definitely accept the additional expenditure of ten Euros. In any case, a look at the remote control makes it clear why it can have a big appeal. After all, Amazon brings the biggest innovation so far after the microphone. Thus, the app buttons should make the operation of any Fire TV device much easier.

Amazon retains the basic design in its relaunched remote control, but in detail has changed quite a bit. The most noticeable are probably the new buttons, which are practical shortcuts for the most popular streaming services. In the course of the new buttons, the button layout has been adjusted a bit. While the volume buttons and the upper part match the layout of the predecessor, the mute button has now joined the volume control. In the old models, this was found underneath. Since the four buttons for Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Music are now located here, it had to give way. The color accents are also new. Not only the app buttons shine in corresponding colors. Also the Alexa button next to the On/Off button now comes in the Alexa-typical blue tone.

The most popular streaming services at the touch of a button

Conveniently, Amazon provides the new remote with four handy app buttons that enable instant access to four major streaming services. Besides the three video streaming services Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video, you also get access to the music streaming service Amazon Music here. However, individualists who want their own programming will be left with nothing. Finally, according to Amazon, no adjustments can be made to the preset shortcuts.

The scope of delivery can be quite impressive in view of an RRP of 40 euros. (Image: Amazon)

It is not yet known when the other models in the Fire TV range will be able to enjoy the new remote control. Who decides now, for example, for a Fire TV Cube or another product from the category, must still live with the old remote control. However, we can assume that the online store will now deliver all other Fire TV products with the new remote step by step.
