Apple apparently plans subscription model for iPhone & Co.

Apple seems to have a new major project in the pipeline. For once, it is not a new iPhone or iPad. Rather, the tech company wants to establish a new business model. According to reports, it will soon be possible to subscribe to the iPhone. This is to save the one-time purchase of one of the expensive smartphones and instead can pay regular subscription fees.

This sounds familiar

Strictly speaking, the idea of subscribing to technology is not new. After all, providers such as Grover have already been offering a similar concept for some time. But what the tech company from Silicon Valley wants to score with is convenience. Subscription fees can be paid simply via the Apple ID. Those who have deposited their credit card here, for example, should then be able to pay the rent for the iPhone just as easily as the costs for an app. The offer is nothing new, at least for Apple fans in the USA. After all, you can already ensure that you always have the latest device there. Once you have signed up for the “iPhone Upgrade Program”, you get the corresponding version every year right after the launch of the latest iPhone model. The old smartphone then goes back to Apple.

When does it start?

Apple itself has not yet commented on its convenient subscription model. The information is insider knowledge, which the well-known news portal Bloomberg could collect. From this, it emerges that the Apple ID could become even more of a focus in the future. After all, the convenient subscription method via the Apple account on the iPhone could only be the beginning. Especially for Mac models, this procedure could be imagined as well. Finally, the entire Apple ecosystem could be used in the latest version without having to spend a lot of money at once. A performance comparison between the recently introduced Mac Studio and the Mac Pro has already made it clear how pointless it can sometimes be to buy the latest high-end technology.

Despite a fraction of the price, the Mac Studio even delivers better performance in some disciplines than the wickedly expensive Mac Pro. But when can we expect the subscription model? According to Bloomberg’s insider, the tech company has been busy building up its subscription model for quite some time. A start of the whole thing is assumed for the end of this year. This would make perfect sense. After all, experience shows that the most important Apple keynote with the presentation of the latest iPhone is scheduled for September. Perhaps the iPhone 14 would then be the first smartphone to be available as a subscription device in the US. However, it is clear that the subscription will only be possible in the USA for the time being.

Stock market upswing for Apple

On the stock market, meanwhile, Apple shares are enjoying a major upswing. Apparently, investors seem to be happy about the new distribution channel. Thus, the share of the tech company could grow by a proud 1.6 percent. The reason for all this is probably the fact that the subscription model could certainly attract new customers. So far, such subscription solutions have primarily been interesting for companies that want to offer their employees up-to-date hardware. The uncomplicated billing via the Apple ID should also attract private customers. On top of that, a monthly lease with the prospect of having the latest technology in their own hands is certainly more attractive for many than a one-time high purchase price. Many investors probably expect an increase in sales.
