Apple expands MacBook Air line with a 15-inch model

Apple has added a new model to its MacBook Air lineup. Fifteen years after the launch of the first MacBook Air, the company introduced a 15-inch model at WWDC 2023. Like the smaller model, the new MacBook Air 15″ is equipped with a passively cooled M2 chip.

Slim design and impressive performance

The new MacBook Air 15″ features a 15.3-inch 16:10 aspect ratio display with a maximum brightness of 500 nits and 5mm thin edges. Despite its size, it weighs only 1.5 kilograms and is 11.5 mm thick. Apple calls it the thinnest 15-inch notebook in the world.

Equipped with the latest M2 chip

Inside the new MacBook Air 15-inch works an M2 chip with 8 CPU cores (4x high-performance, 4x high-efficiency) and 10 GPU cores. In contrast to the 13-inch model, there is only the M2 variant with 10 GPU cores in the 15-inch model.

Connections and audio system

In terms of ports, the larger model takes its cues from the smaller one and only offers two USB 4/Thunderbolt 3 via USB Type C, MagSafe 3 and a jack. A new feature is the 6-speaker audio system, which is supposed to provide an impressive sound experience.

Battery life and availability

Despite the larger display, the 15-inch model is said to offer up to 18 hours of battery life. The new MacBook Air with 15.3-inch Retina display is available for pre-order now and will begin shipping on June 13. Prices start at 1,599 euros.

Still available: MacBook Air 13″

With the introduction of the MacBook Air 15″, Apple has also announced a price reduction of the MacBook Air 13″ with M2 chip, which is now available starting at 1,299 euros. The older MacBook Air 13″ with M1 chip remains on sale starting at 1,199 euros.

With the addition of a 15-inch model to the MacBook Air lineup, Apple now offers even more choice for users looking for a powerful yet slim notebook.
