Apple has announced that its AI features, under the name “Apple Intelligence”, will now also be available in Germany. After a long back and forth, there are now plans to make artificial intelligence, which was previously only to be offered in selected markets, available to German users.
Highlights
- Apple brings AI features to Germany
- New functions for image and text processing
- Intelligent assistance services for an optimized user experience
- Rollout expected by the end of 2024
Intelligent functions for everyday life
There was a great deal of excitement when Apple announced its in-house AI features with “Apple Intelligence” in early summer. The AI platform, which will be released in October 2024, includes a variety of AI-supported features designed to make everyday life easier. The optimizations in image processing are particularly noteworthy here. Apple relies on machine learning to automatically improve photos by adjusting colors, correcting exposure and highlighting objects more clearly.
This automation should appeal not only to amateur photographers, but also to professional users. In addition to image processing, text recognition also benefits greatly from the new AI algorithms. Apple is integrating this function deep into the system, enabling automatic recognition and conversion of handwritten notes or scanned text into digital text. This is particularly useful for students, creative professionals and anyone who works a lot with text.
Voice assistance on a new level
Another highlight is the further development of Apple’s voice assistant Siri. Thanks to “Apple Intelligence”, the voice assistant is set to become even smarter. The tech company says that conversations with the assistant will seem more natural, commands will be recognized more quickly and answers will be more precise. The AI can not only answer questions, but also provide suggestions based on user behavior, for example when searching for specific files or apps.
These functions will not only appear on the iPhone 16, which was introduced at the beginning of September. They will also be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, MacBooks, iPads and even the Apple Watch. Especially users who are already deeply integrated into the Apple ecosystem will benefit from the improved synergies between the devices. But for German Apple fans, the release of Apple Intelligence was uncertain.
Apple has adjusted the availability of the AI features and added Germany. However, German customers will have to wait a little longer. While a release in US-English and UK-English is scheduled for next month, a German version will not follow until early 2025. Whether Apple will be able to clarify and overcome the legal hurdles of its AI features with the EU by then is questionable.
Data protection remains in focus
Apple emphasizes that despite the extensive AI features, the protection of user data is the top priority. Unlike many of its competitors, information is processed locally on the devices themselves. This means that sensitive data is not uploaded to the cloud, which should provide additional protection against unauthorized access.
