Apple iPad Pro 2021 gets decent performance increase with M1 ARM-Soc

Apple has now officially unveiled the new iPad Pro, which features an M1 ARM processor and Thunderbolt port, as well as a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits, depending on the model.

Normal performance upgrade

The new generation iPad Pro has received a decent performance upgrade. Inside the Pro now works the Apple M1 chip, which is also installed in the current 13-inch MacBook Pro. According to Apple, the new M1 ARM SoC improves the iPad Pro’s processor performance by up to 50 percent, and the graphics performance is also 40 percent higher compared to the predecessor with the Apple A12Z Bionic chip. The flash storage is twice as fast in the new generation and is available with a capacity of up to 2 TB. In the base, the iPad Pro has 8 GB of RAM, while the variants with 1 TB and 2 TB of storage have 16 GB of RAM.

Another upgrade is only given to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, it now has a Liquid Retina XDR display. The display achieves a contrast of 1,000,000:1 and reaches a peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits. The maximum full-screen brightness is up to 1,000 nits. In order for the iPad Pro to reach these values, Apple relies on 10,000 mini-LEDs instead of the 72 LEDs in the predecessor. To improve contrast, the LEDs are 120 times smaller and dimmable in over 2,500 zones. The 11-inch variant of the iPad Pro comes with a Liquid Retina Display for an intense viewing experience.

The USB port has also gotten an upgrade to Thunderbolt for fast connections. Optionally, the new iPad Pro is also available with an integrated 5G modem. Storage options include a choice of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB. In terms of color, there is a choice between silver and space gray. The keyboard case for the Magic Keyboard is now also available in white.

Availability and prices

The new Apple iPad Pro will be available from April 30, 2021, and will start shipping in the second half of May. In the process, the iPad Pro in 12.9 inches with 128 GB and Wi-Fi will cost 1,199 euros. With the 5G modem, 1,369 euros will be due. In 11 inches and with 128 GB storage, the price is 879 Euros and with the 5G modem, the price is 1,049 Euros.
