Apple Look Around launches extensively in Germany

What Google calls StreetView is called Apple Look Around in the Apple universe. The English name “Look Around” sounds much more appealing. Apple’s Maps app only received new material for Germany at the end of April, marking the start of Look Around. In the meantime, large parts of the country have been mapped.

Apple Look Around available for many locations

Apple Look Around first started with detailed views of the Bavarian capital Munich. Later followed mainly major cities such as Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Dortmund, Berlin, Hamburg and some more.

Now there was another major update, after which many places and parts of Germany were now covered. For this, Apple’s survey vehicles were on the road throughout Germany in recent weeks and months, as can be seen from the information have.

Many counties were added, particularly in June 2022. According to the listing, the latest data comes from the beautiful state of Hesse, where the Lahn-Dill-Kreis, Landkreis Gießen and Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf were last recorded on June 30. At the same time, however, the vehicles were also on the road in Lower Saxony or North Rhine-Westphalia.

Can I find my location in Apple Look Around?

“Look Around” thereby offers, when accessed via Apple’s Maps app, interactive images with high-resolution 3D photos. In the meantime, even small villages in rural areas are supposed to have been captured. You can easily find out for yourself whether your town is included: In the map app, a binocular icon indicates that a “look around” function is available. A click then takes you to the 360-degree view.

You can also see when the image material was last updated. However, faces of passers-by or license plates of vehicles are not visible in the 3D view for data protection reasons. Because here Apple set according to own statement on security.

“We are committed to protecting your privacy when conducting these data collections. For example, we will make faces and license plates unrecognizable in pictures that are published in Look Around.”

One had also worked closely with the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision to implement a secure concept. This once again highlights all the details of Apple’s Look Around camera rides on its own website, and also tells you how to appeal or contact Apple if there’s a problem or you don’t like the way it’s presented.

“Data subjects have a right to information about the nature and purpose of the camera recordings and can object to the processing of their personal data,” written by the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision.

However, you can only use Apple Maps including the Look Around feature on devices from the manufacturer, i.e. iPhones, iPads, MacBooks and the like. Unlike Google, the map service is not available on the PC.
