Shortly before the summer of 2026, Apple is experiencing an unusual delivery situation: several desktop models such as the Mac mini and Mac Studio are currently not immediately available in Apple’s online store or have even disappeared completely from the range – a situation that is worrying both professionals and technology enthusiasts. This is due to bottlenecks in memory modules, high demand from the AI sector and speculation about upcoming product updates. Delivery times could return to normal in the coming weeks – provided Apple is able to deliver again from early to mid-June 2026 according to its own forecasts.

Highlights

  • Several configurations of Mac mini and Mac Studio currently not available to order.
  • Delivery times for available variants are long (weeks to months).
  • Causes: Memory shortage, exploding demand and product refresh speculation.
  • Apple has not officially commented on the situation.

Delivery problems with desktop Macs: What is happening?

In Apple’s online store, certain upgraded models of the Mac mini and Mac Studio are currently marked with the status “Currently Unavailable”. This mainly affects builds with more RAM – typically 32 GB or more for the Mac mini and 128 GB or 256 GB for the Mac Studio.

For geek users, developers and professionals who want to equip their Macs with large amounts of unified memory, this currently means: no more ordering options. Even if you scroll past the configuration, these variants are completely missing. Other models can still be ordered, but are listed with unusually long delivery times of several weeks to months – instead of the usual instant shipping option that Apple usually offers for many Macs.

Why this shortage right now?

Analysts and industry observers see several factors running in parallel:

  1. Global memory shortage:
The production of DRAM chips, which are used for memory in Macs, is currently strained worldwide. This is due to production bottlenecks on the one hand and a sharp increase in demand from the artificial intelligence and cloud data center sectors on the other.
  2. Unexpectedly high demand:
The Mac mini in particular has evolved beyond its traditional role and is being used by developers and AI enthusiasts to run local AI workloads with lots of RAM. As a result, demand for certain configurations is growing faster than expected.
  3. Product cycle effects:
Apple has not yet confirmed an official timeline, but traditional observers see the current destocking as an indication that new models with M5-series chips could be introduced this year. This pattern – reducing inventory before launching new hardware – is not uncommon in the industry.

Implications for buyers

For technology enthusiasts and professionals, the situation currently means above all waiting times and limited choice. Anyone who is dependent on a specific configuration should be prepared for delays or check alternatives.
Even if basic models of Mac mini and Mac Studio are still available in some regions, delivery times are considered to be significantly longer than usual.

Outlook

According to internal estimates, Apple expects to be able to deliver certain models again from June, provided the situation eases and components become available. An official statement on supply bottlenecks has not yet been made. For buyers, this means that patience can pay off, especially if product updates or an easing of the storage situation occur soon. However, as long as demand remains high and storage remains expensive, availability could still take a few weeks.
