With the Apple TV 4K, the company has introduced a new 3rd generation device that connects TV with other Apple devices and services and comes with numerous innovations. These include a faster chip, support for HDR10+ and a Siri remote with USB-C port.
Apple TV 4K unveiled
The new Apple TV 4K gets some exciting new features. The 93 mm x 93 mm x 91 mm box is almost identical to its predecessor, except that the TV lettering on the top has been dropped.
The weight has also been reduced significantly. The box now weighs only 208 grams. Presumably, Apple has reduced the fan this time. From a technical point of view, however, the Apple TV 4K has increased significantly and retires the old A12 chip.
The Apple A15 Bionic, which is also used in the iPhone 14, is now installed and probably makes the device the most powerful streaming box on the market. The CPU performance is said to have increased by 50 percent, the GPU by up to 30 percent.
4K content with HDR10+ and more
Also new is support for HDR10+ content, which is now supported alongside Dolby Vision. The Siri remote now has a USB-C port for charging, replacing the previous Lightning connector.
Thread is also supported in the 128GB model with Wi-Fi and Ethernet, allowing the Apple TV 4K to be used as a smart home hub and work with Apple HomeKit and the new smart home standard Matter.
The connections and standards remain the same with HDMI 2.1 and Bluetooth 5.0. WLAN 6 (802.11ax) with 2×2 MIMO is also offered, as well as a Gigabit LAN port in the larger model.
Price and availability
The Apple TV 4K is available for pre-order now from the manufacturer and will be released on November 04, 2022. It starts at an MSRP of 169.00 Euros for the model with 64 GB of storage and WLAN. The 128 GB version with WLAN and Ethernet will cost 189.00 Euros.
