Improvements in weight and price

The first generation of the Apple Vision Pro was not a real success. But even though Apple discontinued the development of AR glasses in February 2025, the tech company is by no means giving up on the concept. After all, the company is currently working at full speed on a successor. The current Vision Pro weighs around 650 grams, with the 353 gram battery being worn separately.

By comparison, the Meta Quest 3 (€ 877.32 *) weighs only 513 grams including the battery. Apple plans to reduce the weight of the Vision Pro 2 to make it more comfortable to wear. But they don’t just want to reduce the weight. Apple also wants to make the gadget more accessible in terms of price. For the current Vision Pro, the company is asking about € 4,000.

Introduction of a new M5 chip and AI functions

A key upgrade of the Vision Pro 2 will be the use of the new M5 chip. This should not only increase performance, but also enable the integration of AI functions. A new user interface is planned that combines eye control, gestures and Apple Intelligence. In addition, a text-to-video AI model could generate virtual environments in real time.

Development of a second headset as a Mac accessory

Parallel to the Vision Pro 2, Apple is probably working on a second headset model that will serve as a Mac accessory. This device does without its own ARM chip and battery and is instead connected to a Mac by cable. As a result, it could be offered at a lower price and benefit from the higher performance of the Mac. Experts see potential uses for the device as a mobile monitor for the Mac or in industrial applications such as flight simulators. We could therefore be looking at a gadget similar to the ASUS AirVision M1 we recently tested (Review | € 803.90 *).

Conclusion

The Apple Vision Pro 2 promises significant improvements in terms of weight, price and functionality. With the new M5 chip and the integration of AI functions, it could significantly enhance the user experience. The introduction of a second, more affordable headset as a Mac accessory shows Apple’s ambition to serve different market segments. An exact release date has not yet been set.
