Apple wants to integrate entire Mac in one keyboard

Apple has filed a new patent that revolves around an exciting concept. According to it, the entire Mac is supposed to be integrated into the keyboard, while the power supply and other connections are realized with the help of an external display.

Apple files exciting patent

An entire computer based on the Mac, integrated into a keyboard. Apple has now submitted this exciting concept to the US Patent & Trademark Office have secured. The complete base of the computer is integrated directly into the keyboard housing, similar to what is already the case with the Raspberry Pi 400.

As shown in the patent, the Apple computer is connected to an external display and other peripherals with the help of a single cable. In any case, the patent, which Patently Apple has published, does not reveal any other ports.

The port is reminiscent of a USB Type-C port, which could supply the computer-keyboard hybrid with power thanks to USB Power Delivery and simultaneously enable the presentation of content on a display. At the same time, other accessories could be connected to the system.

Little 65 percent form factor

The patent image also suggests that Apple Computer will rely on the small 65 percent form factor for the keyboard. Thus, the system seems to additionally do without a dedicated F-key row and a number pad in order to save additional space on small desks.

It is conceivable that Apple plans to install a specially developed chip, such as the M1 or its successor M2, including soldered working memory directly on a mainboard inside the keyboard. A look inside the current Macbook Pro shows that Apple’s current mainboards already have a compact size that could make such an undertaking possible.

In the description of patent number 20220057845, Apple states: “For example, a user can carry a keyboard that includes a computer, rather than carrying an entire laptop or tower including a keyboard. […] This device configuration can allow a user to carry a single computing device that enables a full desktop computing experience in any location with one or more computer monitors.”

It is important to note, however, that this is currently only a patent and it is not certain if, and if so when, the concept will even come to market.
