Apple is planning to enter the smart home market with an innovative video doorbell that uses Face ID to automatically unlock front doors. At least that’s what Bloomberg reports. This technology, known from iPhones, is intended to increase convenience and security in everyday life.
Key features:
- 3D facial recognition: Enables the door to be unlocked automatically for people you know.
- Integration with HomeKit: Compatible with existing HomeKit door locks such as the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra
- Data protection: Local data processing and secure data transfer via a special Wi-Fi chip.
The planned video doorbell is designed to integrate seamlessly into Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem and work with existing smart door locks. By using Face ID’s 3D facial recognition technology, the door is automatically unlocked as soon as a registered resident is recognized. This not only increases convenience, but also security, as unauthorized persons are denied access.
Apple pays particular attention to data protection. All data is to be processed locally, thus protecting the privacy of users. A specially developed WLAN chip is used for the secure transfer of data to the iCloud. These measures underline Apple’s commitment to protecting user data.
The development of the smart video doorbell is still at an early stage. A market launch is not expected until the end of 2025 at the earliest. There is also the possibility that Apple will license the technology to partner companies such as Belkin or Logitech instead of launching its own product on the market.
With this planned innovation, Apple could revolutionize the smart home market and enrich the everyday lives of many users with intelligent and secure solutions.
