Aqara FP300: New presence multi-sensor with mmWave and Matter compatibility presented

With the Presence Multi-Sensor FP300, Aqara has introduced a versatile smart home device that takes the detection of people and environmental conditions to a new level. The compact sensor combines several technologies for precise presence and environmental detection – and for the first time, it is battery-operated with a service life of up to two years.

  • 5-in-1 multi-sensor with mmWave, PIR, light, temperature and humidity detection
  • Matter-capable thanks to Thread and Zigbee support
  • Battery life of up to 3 years (Zigbee mode)
  • AI-supported motion detection with filtering of false alarms

Precise presence and environmental monitoring in a compact format

The Aqara FP300 integrates several sensor types in a housing that is barely the size of the palm of your hand. The combination of millimeter wave (mmWave) and infrared technology (PIR) enables detailed motion detection even with minimal activity – for example, when a person is sitting still or sleeping. With a detection range of up to 6 meters and a viewing angle of 120 degrees, the sensor detects presence precisely and significantly reduces false alarms.

This is supported by AI-based learning algorithms that automatically adapt movement patterns. This enables the system to learn to distinguish between people, pets and robot vacuum cleaners, for example. Over time, the sensor becomes increasingly reliable and adapts to the respective environment. In addition, built-in light, temperature and humidity sensors are used for precise environmental analysis. This allows the FP300 to automatically control heating, lighting or humidifiers, for example, thereby increasing energy efficiency and comfort.

Flexible integration with Matter support

The Aqara FP300 is compatible with both Thread and Zigbee, making it future-proof in accordance with the Matter standard. It can be seamlessly integrated into common smart home platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant or Homey. This means it is not tied to a specific ecosystem and offers a high degree of flexibility during setup.

It is powered by two CR2450 button cells, which should last up to two years in Thread mode and up to three years in Zigbee mode. Thanks to its wireless design, the sensor can be positioned anywhere – on the wall, on the ceiling or in otherwise unused areas using a magnetic holder. This makes it suitable for installation in study rooms, corridors or bathrooms, for example, to intelligently automate lighting and climate control.

Advanced configuration options are also available: Sensitivity, sensor time window or detection range can be individually adjusted via the Aqara Home app. If desired, the user can deactivate certain sensor functions or optimize the running time of the device to save energy.

Compact design, great effect

With dimensions of 42 × 42 × 50 mm, the FP300 remains inconspicuous, but offers an enormous functional density. The device operates in a temperature range between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius and at up to 95 percent humidity without condensation. Wireless communication takes place via Thread, Zigbee or Bluetooth – the latter is mainly used for setup.

This combination allows Aqara to address several areas of application at once: Precise presence detection for security applications, automatic light management in living spaces or demand-based heating control for greater energy efficiency. The FP300 is therefore interesting for both newcomers to the smart home and advanced automation users.

Price and availability

The Aqara FP300 is now available in stores at a price of 49.99 euros. The FP300 shows just how much intelligent sensor technology is developing in the smart home sector: more precise, more networked and much easier to use – without any cables and with staying power.
