Arlo Ultra 3: 4K surveillance camera detects packages and even fire

With the Arlo Ultra 3, the manufacturer is expanding its portfolio of premium security cameras, focusing on high-resolution video footage and AI-supported analysis functions. The new surveillance camera is aimed at users who want to comprehensively secure their home or company premises and value modern technology. 4K HDR, an extremely wide viewing angle and intelligent warning systems are designed to ensure that relevant events are reliably detected and documented.

  • 4K HDR video with a field of view of up to 180 degrees
  • AI detection for people, vehicles, animals, parcels and fire
  • Wireless operation with replaceable battery
  • Local storage and optional cloud functions

Arlo Ultra 3 with 4K resolution and large field of view

The Arlo Ultra 3 technically relies on an 8 megapixel sensor that enables video recording in various resolutions. In addition to 4K, 2K, Full HD or 720p can also be selected to save storage space or optimize battery life. The lens offers a very wide field of view of 180 degrees, allowing large areas to be covered with just one camera. The integrated motion sensor works with a horizontal detection angle of 150 degrees and triggers corresponding recordings when activity is detected.

For use in poor lighting conditions, an integrated spotlight is installed, which automatically provides illumination at night. The camera also has a digital zoom with auto-tracking function. Detected objects can be tracked automatically, even if the image sharpness naturally decreases due to the digital magnification. The camera is IP65-certified for outdoor use and is therefore protected against dust and water jets.

The Arlo Ultra 3 is also flexible when it comes to connectivity. Video transmission takes place via WLAN in either the 2.4 or 5 GHz band. Thanks to the integrated rechargeable battery, no fixed power cable is required, which makes installation easier. Arlo claims a maximum battery life of up to six months. Charging takes place directly via the camera using USB-C or more quickly using a separate charger.

AI-supported detection for parcels and fire

A key feature of the Arlo Ultra 3 is the AI-based warning system, which Arlo calls the “Secure Early Warning System”. Notifications can be triggered via the associated app as soon as activity occurs in the detection area. To reduce false alarms, Arlo offers advanced object detection that can differentiate between people, vehicles, animals, packages and even fire. Parcel detection is particularly interesting for entrance areas, while fire detection provides an additional security aspect.

However, these intelligent functions are only available as part of a paid subscription. The KI Secure subscription costs EUR 18.99 per month or EUR 189.90 per year and includes cloud storage for video recordings in addition to AI detection. Without a subscription, use is limited to a live view and simple motion detection without sophisticated analysis.

Independent of the subscription, Arlo also offers local storage options. Video footage can be backed up to a microSD card or USB storage device when using a compatible Smart Hub. This maintains a certain independence from the cloud, which can be particularly relevant for data protection or cost reasons.

Conclusion: Powerful security camera with optional AI

The Arlo Ultra 3 is positioned as a powerful 4K surveillance camera with a very large field of view and modern AI analysis. The detection of parcels and fire in particular sets it apart from many competitor models, even if these functions are linked to a paid subscription. The Arlo Ultra 3 starts at €299.99 for the single camera without Smart Hub. Sets with two cameras and hub are available from 599.99 euros. The model is therefore clearly aimed at the premium segment, but offers extensive features and flexible application options.
