The team from Arpara has presented an exciting device with the VR headset of the same name. The spec sheet of the HMD device, which was funded via crowdfunding, comes with a micro OLED display and an impressive 5K resolution.
Arpara VR headset unveiled
The Arpara’s micro-OLED display is said to realize a resolution of 5,120 x 2,560 pixels (2,560 x 2,560 pixels per eye), coming in at a high image quality of 3,514 ppi and at a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz for the tethered model or up to 90 Hz in the all-in-one device. In contrast, the refresh rate is only 70 Hz in full 5K resolution. The full 90 Hz is available at a resolution of 3,840 x 1,920 pixels.
The latter is based on the VR platform Qualcomm XR2 and can be used completely autonomously as well as wirelessly. This model is supposed to be particularly easy to set up and requires batteries for use. The battery is 6,500 mAh, and the VR glasses also support WiFi 6.
Alternatively, the Arpara is also available as a wired variant as a Basic model and Deep Gaming Kit. The Basic model supports 3DoF games, while the Gaming Kit gives you 6DoF titles at up to 90 Hz via DisplayPort 1.4. When watching movies or PC gaming outside of Steam VR, the arpara Deep Gaming Kit enables the full 120 Hz at a resolution of 3,840 x 1,080 pixels.
Compatibility and audio
The Arpara VR systems tracker is also said to be compatible with many Steam VR-enabled devices. Thus, base stations and controllers from HTC Vive 1.0 and 2.0, as well as the Valve Index, are said to be able to be used with the HMD.
In addition, the manufacturer promises immersive sound in dual-channel stereo mode and full sRGB farm space coverage (127 percent), while the DCI-P3 color space is still said to be covered by 90 percent.
