At CES 2020, there will not only be boring recurring devices to be seen. Among them are also exciting innovations. ASUS today announced for example the TUF Gaming VG259QM and VG279QM, the super fast IPS monitors with up to 280 Hertz refresh rate . This should even be achieved at FullHD resolution (1920 x 1080) and they support ELMB Sync. Asus titles the monitors as the fastest in the world so far.
With Asus Fast IPS technology
Also unveiled was the ROG Strix XG279Q, a 27 inch gaming display with WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440) and up to 170 Hz refresh rate. All three new gaming displays feature the so-called ASUS FastIPS technology to achieve a response time of 1 millisecond. The technology uses liquid crystal elements that are said to work up to 4 times faster than conventional IPS panels.
The reaction time of one millisecond is often specified for a particularly fast grey change. However, this may be completely different when the screen changes colour, but can only be assessed on the basis of a practical test.
After all, the three monitors are advertised with a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) Sync, which can be coupled with NVIDIA G-SYNC-. This is supposed to completely eliminate the effects of ghosting and tearing and provide for even sharper gaming content with high frame rates.
Both the TUF Gaming VG279QM and VG259QM feature a color space that covers 99 percent of the sRGB color space for strong color accuracy and reproduction, while the ROG Strix XG279Q offers 95 percent DCI-P3 color space coverage. All three displays have a viewing angle of 178 degrees to ensure minimal distortion and color shift.

The two TUF gaming monitors, VG279QM and VG259QM, deliver a wide range of colors and high contrasts. Even in the brightest situations and darkest shadows, they are designed to deliver crisp details that are lost with other monitors without HDR technology. The displays achieve the specified brightness of 400 cd/m² for DisplayHDR 400 certification.
In addition, ASUS Dynamic Shadow Boost technology automatically improves dark areas of the game world by optimizing corresponding areas, thereby improving overall performance. For example, this also allows virtual enemies that hide in dark areas of the card to be detected more quickly.
