Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DC: OLED reference monitor with automatic calibration available

The Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DC, the world’s first OLED reference monitor with automatic calibration, is launched today. Thanks to the built-in motorized flip colorimeter, the display should thus always offer professional color accuracy.

The Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DC in detail

The Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DC is an exciting monitor that is primarily designed for professional content creation. Thanks to OLED technology, all self-luminous pixels are controlled individually.

The new display features an OLED panel with RGB sub-pixel layout and billions of self-illuminating pixels that can be individually activated to display natural images with deep blacks and enhanced color contrast for high luminance images. This makes the monitor ideal for working with HDR content.

The 31.5-inch HDR reference monitor resolves in 4K UHD at 3,840 x 2,160 pixels with 99 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. It peaks at 500 cd/m² brightness when displaying HDR content, which earns it a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. However, the typical brightness turns out to be quite low at 250 cd/m².

Also on offer is a refresh rate of 60 Hz, a gray-to-grey response time of 0.1 ms, and an HDR contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1, or typically 1,000,000:1. As standard, the display also offers a color accuracy of DeltaE <1. It also has a true 10-bit color depth and can display more than 1.07 billion colors.

Intelligent calibration

However, the Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DC comes with a very special feature. Via a built-in motorized flip colorimeter, which is moved into position when required, the display can be recalibrated when needed.

You can also simply access the ASUS ProArt calibration software for this if desired. A look-up table, which is rewritten in the process, ensures exact color matching.

Color parameter profiles are written and saved directly to the PA32DC’s internal scaler IC chip, eliminating the need for a PC or notebook. This also allows use on different devices with different operating systems without having to make new settings.

The saved profiles can be easily activated via the hotkey on the monitor. The integrated colorimeter also works seamlessly with Calman professional hardware calibration software and Light Illusion ColourSpace CMS.

Smart Brightness and HDR

Typically, OLED displays use an automatic brightness limiter (ABL) to optimize power consumption by automatically dimming white or extra-bright images in a Specified Window as the window size increases.

However, with the ProArt Display OLED PA32DC, it is possible to activate the “Uniform Brightness” function via the OSD menu. This ensures that all windows have the same brightness when displaying different content with different contrasts, making viewing easier and displaying more accurate colors in the long run.

The PA32DC supports multiple HDR formats, including HDR10 and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), for unmatched levels of brightness, contrast, and color. Support is also provided for various HDR10 curves such as PQ Hard Clip Curve, PQ Optimized and PQ Basic to ensure the highest possible compatibility for HDR content and video streaming services.

Thanks to HLG support, the monitor is also ready for professional use in the TV industry. The PA32DC also features an HDR preview function, which allows corresponding content to be previewed in full tonal range via a direct camera-monitor connection.

Multiple Connectors

Built into the Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DC are a full-sized USB-C and DisplayPort 1.4, as well as a full three HDMI 2.0 ports. This is joined by a 3.5 mm jack, as well as a USB hub consisting of four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports.

With two monitor feet and a stand, the PA32DC can be used in any scenario by adjusting the working or viewing position. The included ergonomic stand can tilt, swivel, rotate, and adjust height, and a pivot function including 90-degree rotation is also offered.

Designed for use in a variety of environments, the PA32DC features a wrap-around hood that reduces reflections on the screen from nearby light sources.

Price and Availability

The Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DC is available in stores now. The manufacturer’s MSRP is 4,499 euros. The purchase also comes with a three-month subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, which can be used on a new or existing account. More details can be found on the website of Asus.
