With the new ROG Cetra Open Wireless, ASUS is launching an unusual audio product under its Republic of Gamers (ROG) gaming brand that complements the existing earbuds. The wireless open-ear earbuds are designed to combine high-quality sound with greater perception of the surroundings. The model is therefore not only aimed at gamers, but also at users who want to listen to music on the go or remain aware of their surroundings while doing sports. In addition to an open design, ASUS relies on large drivers, a dual-mode wireless connection and particularly low latency for gaming.

  • Open-ear design allows music and gaming sound without completely blocking out the environment
  • Dual-mode connectivity with Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz wireless via ROG SpeedNova for low latency
  • 14.2 mm drivers with DLC coating for clear sound and powerful bass
  • Up to 16 hours of battery life and fast charging for several hours of playback

ASUS ROG Cetra Open Wireless focuses on open design and flexible connectivity

The ASUS ROG Cetra Open Wireless differ significantly from classic in-ear gaming headsets. Instead of completely shielding the ear canal, the model uses an open-ear concept. This means that some of the ambient noise remains audible – an advantage when training outdoors, on the way to work or in situations where situational awareness is important.

Despite this open design, ASUS promises an immersive sound experience. This is ensured by large 14.2 millimeter drivers whose membranes are coated with so-called Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC). This coating is designed to reduce distortion while ensuring clear highs, defined mids and a noticeable bass. According to the manufacturer, the result is a wider sound stage that provides more spatiality for both games and music.

Another key feature is the dual-mode connectivity. The earphones can either be connected to smartphones, tablets or laptops via classic Bluetooth or via a 2.4 GHz wireless connection with particularly low latency. The latter uses the in-house ROG SpeedNova technology, which was specially developed for gaming audio.

The supplied USB-C dongle also supports a so-called pass-through charging function. This allows the connected device – such as a smartphone or handheld – to continue charging while the wireless connection remains active. This can be a practical advantage, especially for longer gaming sessions or streaming on the go.

Immersive sound, robust design and features for everyday use

In addition to audio quality, ASUS also attaches great importance to suitability for everyday use. The ASUS ROG Cetra Open Wireless are equipped with ergonomic ear hooks made of liquid silicone. These ensure a stable fit without exerting pressure on the ear canal. A reflective neckband can also be attached for sporting activities or outdoor use.

In contrast to many modern earbuds, ASUS deliberately uses physical control buttons instead of touch surfaces. This should enable more precise inputs and prevent accidental touches – for example in the rain, during training or when quickly adjusting the volume during a game.

There are also customization options for the sound options. Two integrated sound modes allow the audio profile to be adjusted quickly:

  • Phantom Bass: boosts the perceived bass performance for more intense music or action games
  • Immersion Mode: slightly reduces ambient noise for greater immersion in content

For everyday use, the earbuds also have IPX5 certification against splashing water. Sweat, light rain or intensive workouts should therefore not harm the system.

According to the manufacturer, the battery life is up to 16 hours in Bluetooth mode – provided RGB lighting and sound modes are deactivated and the microphone is muted. A quick-charging function ensures that just 15 minutes of charging enables around three hours of playback.

Conclusion

With the ASUS ROG Cetra Open Wireless, ASUS is expanding its gaming audio portfolio with a model that deliberately focuses on an open listening concept. The combination of open-ear design, large drivers and dual-mode connection with low latency makes the earbuds a versatile solution for gaming, music and on the go. The earbuds are already available in the USA and cost around 229.99 US dollars. Information on a possible international release is still pending.
