ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 and 15: Gaming notebooks with fast displays

ASUS officially unveiled the new gaming notebooks from its Republic of Gamers division at CES 2022. Now, the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 and the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 are officially on sale. They impress with 12th generation Intel Core processors, ultra-fast NanoEdge displays and liquid metal cooling system.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 and 15: details and features

The two new high-end notebooks ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 and 15 are aimed at the most ambitious gamers. They are equipped with the latest Intel Core i9-12900H processor, up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD, as well as up to an NVIDIA GeForce 3080 Ti (G733Z) or RTX 3070 Ti (G533Z) laptop graphics solution.

The integrated MUX switch provides even more graphics power and enables improved frame rates. Both the ROG Strix SCAR 17 and ROG Strix SCAR 15 feature an even more effective liquid metal thermal compound (Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme) on the CPU, and four dedicated air vents to efficiently dissipate heat out of the system.

The redesigned Arc Flow fans with 84 fan blades create excellent airflow and combined with 0dB technology, the gaming notebook operates completely silent at light workloads and is incredibly quiet even at high workloads.

Displays with up to 360 Hz

When it comes to displays, the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 and 15 gaming notebooks offer several options. The 15-incher offers a Full HD display with an ultra-fast frame rate of 300 Hz, while the 17-inch model offers two different variants to choose from: a QHD display with 240 Hz or a Full HD panel with 360 Hz.

All display variants are equipped with Dolby Vision HDR and Adaptive Sync to ensure optimal picture quality without tearing or judder. According to the manufacturer, the response time is put at 3 ms. Furthermore, the IPS-level panels offer particularly vivid colors.

Both Strix models are equipped with a quad speaker design including Dolby Atmos Virtual Surround and offer a clear sound. Two-way AI noise cancellation filters out background noise for both incoming and outgoing communications, allowing for clear team chats at all times, even in stressful gaming situations.

Battery, connectivity and operation

There are no differences when it comes to the battery, so the ROG Strix SCAR 17 and 15 rely on a 90 Wh battery, which should only last for a limited amount of time in the high-end gaming sector, though. ASUS does not provide any concrete information about the battery runtime. Charging is done via a 100W USB Type-C fast charging function.

WiFi 6E in combination with the innovative RangeBoost technology and 2.5G LAN for the wired connection are on board for ultra-fast data rates and more stability. Operated without an external mouse and keyboard, high-end gamers will enjoy an extra-large trackpad that provides more precise control for precision movements.

Precise inputs are possible with the optimized keyboard including per-key illumination. Thanks to the wraparound Light Bar and Aura Sync, you can customize the color scheme with individual lighting and a wide range of effects.

Prices and Availability

The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (model G733Z) and the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 (model G533Z) are available in stores now. The 15-inch notebook starts with an MSRP of 2,199 Euros, while the 17-inch model will cost at least 2,799 Euros.
