Asus Zenbook S13 OLED and S13 Flip OLED: A lot of performance for around 1 kg

A lot of performance in as little space as possible is the motto of the new notebook Asus Zenbook S13 and the convertible Asus Zenbook S13 Flip OLED, which the manufacturer has now presented. The latest Intel Alder Lake and AMD Ryzen processors work in a case that weighs just under 1 kg.

Asus Zenbook S13 OLED in detail

The Asus Zenbook S13 OLED is a classic notebook that comes with a 16:10 OLED display including a 2.8K resolution and a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. It fully covers the DCI-P3 color space and also has a Pantone validation.

The chassis of the 13-inch device is only 14.9 millimeters thin and only weighs around 1 kilogram due to the magnesium-aluminum alloy used. The device is available in four colors: Ponder Blue, Aqua Celadon, Vestige Beige and Refined White.

Despite its compact size, the S13 OLED’s battery is said to be able to last for a whole 19 hours. This is mainly due to the frugal AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor, which is used in the top configuration. The notebook relies on the new AMD Radeon 680M iGPU with RDNA 2 for its graphics solution.

Asus Zenbook S13 Flip OLED: Convertible only marginally heavier

Presumably due to the 360-degree hinge, the Asus Zenbook S13 Flip OLED convertible notebook, on the other hand, turns out to be minimally heavier, weighing 1.1 kg in the end. It is also only 14.9 mm thick and uses an Intel Alder Lake CPU compared to its notebook brother.

Specifically, Asus installs an Intel Core i7-1260P including Iris Xe graphics, which is supported by up to 32 GB LPDDR5 RAM (5,200 MHz clock rate) and up to 1 TB PCIe 4.0 memory with speeds of up to 6,500 MB/s. The 2.8K OLED screen naturally offers touch operation, a brightness of 550 nits and a response time of just 0.2 ms.

Another special feature: The Flip model has an “Adaptive RGB Color Sensor” that automatically adjusts the color temperature to the environment, similar to the TrueTone technology of Apple MacBooks.

One advantage of the Intel base is that the convertible thus supports Thunderbolt 4. Three corresponding USB-C ports can be found in the slim chassis. There is also a microSD card reader. Thanks to Intel Evo, the 67 Wh battery should also have an excellent runtime. Whether it can keep up with the AMD counterpart in the normal S13 OLED remains to be seen.

Prices and availability

The Asus Zenbook S13 OLED and S13 Flip OLED should both be available in stores in the third quarter of 2022. The recommended retail price starts at 1,999 Euros.
