New flagship smartphones: Black Shark 5 & Black Shark 5 Pro

Back in March of this year, Xiaomi introduced the latest generation of its Black Shark devices. The Black Shark 5 series includes a total of three different smartphones called Black Shark 5, Black Shark 5 Pro and Black Shark RS. In China, you can already buy the three exciting phones. Now the worldwide release of Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro is to follow in our country as well.

Black Shark 5 Pro: Mobile gaming at the highest level

Since the two smartphones are already circulating on the Chinese market, we already know how much power they offer. The Black Shark Pro is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen1, which is probably the most powerful smartphone processor at the moment. It is supported by 8, 12 or 16 GB of RAM. In terms of storage space, 256 GB or 512 GB are possible. In view of the gaming power, Xiaomi has of course also thought about the cooling. The “Anti-Gravity Dual VC Cooling System” is supposed to ensure that the smartphone can deliver constant performance – even in demanding games – according to a kind of sandwich principle. Two vapor chambers are used to prevent the hardware from overheating.

A 4,650 mAh battery is supposed to provide staying power. It can be charged at 120 watts at breakneck speed. The Hyper Charge principle is supposed to ensure a full battery in under 15 minutes. According to Xiaomi, no other charging system is currently more efficient. Really cool: If you just want to charge the battery during mobile gaming, this is no problem. In this case, the smartphone can immediately use the current for the gaming hardware. The display also has the best prerequisites. The Pro model uses an AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. It measures 6.67 inches and has a FHD+ resolution. The refresh rate can also be adjusted to save the battery, for example. Three different rates can be set here. Thanks to a brightness of 1,300 nits, gaming is supposed to be possible without any problems even in bright surroundings.

Magnetic shoulder keys

The usability is also supposed to be aimed at gamers again. Thus, the manufacturer once again installs shoulder buttons that are supposed to facilitate the control and enable a gamepad feeling. The physical buttons feature an innovative magnet lift technology, which ensures that the shoulder buttons are only there when you really need them. On top of that, they offer a good pressure point, which is reminiscent of classic controller shoulder buttons.

Triple camera

The sound is also supposed to be impressive. This is made possible by the DTS-enabled stereo speakers. More of a nice-to-have might be the triple camera on the back, which consists of the main camera (108 MP), ultra-wide-angle camera (13 MP) and tele-macro lens (5 MP). For photos, you get features like a night mode. Videos can be recorded with a maximum of up to 4K at 60 FPS. The selfie camera resolves at 16 MP and is supposed to offer a special vlog mode.

Price

The Black Shark 5 Pro is priced at $799 with 8 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM or $899 with 12 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM. On AliExpress, of course, there are coupons again for the launch.

Black Shark 5: Everything a bit slimmed down

From experience, the features in the classic Black Shark 5 are less extensive than in the Pro model. There is a very good processor here in the form of the Snapdragon 870, but it cannot keep up with the current flagship. The choice of working memory is also limited to “only” 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM. The storage space is either 128 GB or 256 GB. On the other hand, you do not have to make any concessions in terms of cooling. The two Vapor Chambers are used here as well. The display technology and the shoulder keys are also the same. Last but not least, the battery technology is the same, including fast charging and a special gaming mode. Thus, both the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro not only offer a perfect gaming package. They also seem to be well equipped for the everyday challenges that a smartphone has to face.

Price

The Black Shark 5 is a bit cheaper than the Pro model, and so 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM will set you back $499, while 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM will set you back $599.
