Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 with larger battery and improvements

Blackmagic Design today announced the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2. The new model relies on a customizable touch screen for more convenient framing, a larger battery for more extensive shooting times without changing batteries, and it supports the attachment of an optional electronic viewfinder. Like its predecessor, it also features the popular cinematic Super 35 image sensor for HDR and a dynamic range of 13 stops, dual native ISO sensitivities and an EF lens mount.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 Inherits Pro Features

The new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 inherits several features from the Pro model in the process, combining them with high-end digital film features in a handy miniature design. The camera body, made of a lightweight carbon-polycarbonate compound, has a multifunctional holding curvature. From there, all controls for shooting, ISO, white balance and shutter angle are within easy reach.

The sensor also reduces thermal noise for cleaner shadows and higher ISO sensitivity. At 5 inches, the generously sized LCD allows for sharp focusing in 4K and 6K resolutions.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2’s larger 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor and EF lens mount allow the use of larger EF photo lenses for cinematic images with shallower depth of field.

With the advanced Blackmagic OS, there is also an intuitive operating system that can be operated using tap and swipe gestures. Advanced camera features such as focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata input, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings and more can be set.

The sensor aims to impress in all situations, providing brilliant low-noise images up to ISO 25,600 in all lighting conditions. The 6K models are equipped with a larger Super 35 sensor that enables shallow depth-of-field shooting and anamorphic lenses.

You can shoot at frame rates up to 60 fps with all models, or up to 120 fps in crop mode. Combined with Blackmagic color processing, the sensor offers the same imaging technology as higher-end digital film cameras.

LCD touchscreen with HDR

The bright 5-inch touchscreen on the back of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera makes framing and precise focusing easy. The LCD screen on the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 is an enhanced HDR display that can be tilted up and down to check settings from any position.

The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 is equipped with the same high-quality fifth-generation color processing as the top-of-the-line URSA Mini Pro 12K. That’s why this camera delivers even more advanced image quality, and is said to excel at delivering lifelike colors and realistic skin tones. With the new dynamic 12-bit gamma curve, more color data is captured in highlights and shadows for more beautiful images.

Optional viewfinder

To facilitate precise outdoor and freehand shooting, Pocket Cinema Camera 6K models support the attachment of an optionally available viewfinder. The Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF features a high-quality 1280 x 960 OLED color display with built-in proximity sensor and four-element diopter ranging from -4 to +4 diopters for unerring focus.

A built-in digital test chart allows the viewfinder to focus perfectly. The electronic viewfinder also displays important status information such as image margin markers. The Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF attaches in an instant via a single connector. The viewfinder has a 70-degree swivel range and comes with four different eyecups for the left and right eyes.

Larger battery

Both Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K models now use larger NP-F570 batteries. A locking DC power connector protects against accidentally unplugging the power cable mid-shoot. The included AC adapter powers the camera and charges the battery at the same time.

In addition, the USB-C expansion port supports steady trickle charging. This allows batteries to be charged via portable battery packs, phone chargers or laptops. The optional battery grip also holds additional batteries to extend runtime.

DaVinci Resolve Studio comes with it

All Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera models come with the full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio. DaVinci Resolve has a new Cut workspace with smart editing tools and innovative features. In addition, other workspaces with DaVinci’s pro tools for editing, advanced color correction, audio post-production and visual effects are also available in the same software.
