Blink Video Doorbell: Amazon’s doorbell soon with full HD video

Amazon has presented a few promising new additions in a wide-ranging presentation of upcoming products. One of them is the Blink Video Doorbell. The smart doorbell from the online shipping giant aims to offer plenty of exciting smart home features hidden in a compact housing. We take a look at the smart doorbell.

High-resolution camera

Probably the best revision concerns the camera, which is located in the smart doorbell. This now finally resolves in full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels). This allows you to see who is standing at your front door and pressing the bell at any time. This also fulfills extensive security aspects. After all, not everyone is welcome within your own four walls. The smart doorbell from Amazon can be installed in different ways. You can either connect it to your smart home via cable or completely wirelessly. If you already have a normal doorbell, the Blink Video Doorbell can also be connected to the existing bell wire without any problems.

Of course, support for the company’s own voice assistant Alexa is also included. This way, you can also conveniently control the doorbell with your voice. But how does it all work in practice? If someone presses the button on your doorbell, you will receive a notification. For example, a ringtone can be played via your Echo. Alternatively, it is also possible to work via a notification in the app. The smartphone notification is good when you are not in your own four walls at the moment.

The built-in full HD camera starts recording whenever it detects movement outside your front door. Since it does this around the clock, you can permanently enjoy video surveillance. But the smart doorbell does not only have a camera. Amazon also installs a microphone and a small speaker. This allows you to use the smart doorbell like an intercom. Unfortunately, the latest generation of the Blink does not have an integrated battery. Instead, two AA batteries are used. However, Amazon itself speaks of a good endurance. The smart doorbell should be able to last up to two years with just two batteries.

But what actually happens to the recorded videos? These are either stored in Blink’s in-house cloud or on a connected USB stick. The cloud solution is still free at the beginning, but is supposed to come with a certain fee afterwards. Those who are interested in the Blink Video Doorbell do not have to wait too long. Amazon wants to offer the smart combination of doorbell, surveillance camera and intercom in Germany soon. The RRP is to be 59.99 euros.

Matching accessories

In addition to the smart doorbell itself, Amazon did not miss the opportunity to introduce practical accessories for the doorbell. On the one hand, there is the Blink outdoor camera, which has a radiant power of a whopping 700 lumens. In combination with the Blink, you should be able to conjure up a real security camera, with which everything is clearly visible even in the dark. As soon as the camera registers a movement, the bright floodlight is activated.

This will probably chase uninvited guests away in the vast majority of cases. Like the camera itself, the floodlight is powered by batteries. If you don’t want to use batteries, you can get a suitable solar panel. This supplies the camera with solar energy. Both accessories will be available in 2021. Amazon would like to charge an MSRP of 39.99 Euros for each.
