Bloomberg reveals Apple’s AI hardware plans: focus on smart glasses, Apple Pin and new AirPods

Apple’s next big wave of products could be much more heavily influenced by artificial intelligence than previously assumed. According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is working on several wearable AI devices – including smart glasses, a so-called Apple Pin and new AirPods with cameras. The aim is apparently to fundamentally reposition Siri and integrate AI deeply into everyday life.

  • Smart glasses with high-resolution cameras and AI integration planned
  • “Apple Pin” in development as an iPhone-connected AI wearable
  • New AirPods with cameras for enhanced Siri functions
  • Market launch of the glasses probably in 2027, AirPods expected in 2026

Apple’s AI hardware plans: smart glasses as an attack on Meta

At the heart of the current rumors about Apple’s AI hardware plans are smart glasses that are to be positioned as direct competition to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. As with the Meta model, Apple’s version is also said to do without an integrated display. Instead, the company is apparently relying on high-resolution cameras, microphones, speakers and a battery integrated into the temples.

The cameras will play a key role: they will not only take photos and videos, but above all serve as a visual interface for a new, AI-supported Siri. Conceivable functions include recognizing text on posters, automatically creating calendar entries or visual navigation based on buildings and street signs. This would see Apple take the next step towards context-based assistance systems in which the AI actively interprets the environment.

According to the report, Apple will stand out from the competition in particular thanks to better camera quality and higher-quality workmanship. Production of the glasses could start in December, with a launch being discussed for the first half of 2027. Given the product cycles to date and Apple’s focus on sophisticated hardware, this time frame seems plausible. However, it remains to be seen to what extent the glasses without a display actually offer added value compared to existing solutions.

Apple Pin and AI AirPods: wearables as an extension of Siri

In addition to the glasses, Apple is apparently working on another wearable, which is being traded internally as the “Apple Pin”. The concept is vaguely reminiscent of the Humane Ai Pin, but is said to be smaller and technically less self-sufficient. Unlike the Humane device, the Apple Pin would require an iPhone. The computing power and AI processing run on the smartphone, while the pin acts as an additional sensor system.

Cameras and microphones in the pin would serve as “eyes and ears” for Siri, so to speak. Attached to clothing or a necklace, the device could continuously provide contextual information. A market launch is considered realistic for 2027 at the earliest, although the plans are not yet finalized according to the report. In light of the subdued market response to stand-alone AI pins, Apple’s cautious approach seems strategically plausible.

The plans for new AirPods with integrated cameras appear much more concrete. These are due to be released in 2026 and are primarily intended to enable additional AI functions. Here too, the focus is not on taking photos, but on expanding Siri with visual context information. In combination with a chatbot-like version of Siri expected for iOS 27, Apple could create a networked AI ecosystem consisting of iPhone and wearables.

Conclusion

The details revealed by Bloomberg about Apple’s AI hardware plans paint the picture of a comprehensive AI offensive. Smart glasses, Apple Pin and camera-equipped AirPods are intended to integrate Siri more closely into everyday life and make visual intelligence usable. The glasses are expected to be launched in 2027, while the new AirPods could be released as early as 2026. Official prices are not yet known.
