Boost Kit: New system turns any bike into an e-bike

Anyone who wants to enjoy the benefits of an e-bike but can’t afford or doesn’t want an electric bike can turn any bike into an e-bike with the Boost Kit for retrofitting. At least that’s the promise of the manufacturer, who is crowdfunding the new system.

Boost Kit turns bike into e-bike

The idea of the Boost Kit is not new. Back in June 2022, we introduced you to a very similar retrofit option with Skarper, which works in a very similar way and is expected to turn bicycles into e-bikes starting in 2023.

In a very similar vein, and also from the UK, is Boost. A lightweight and discreet e-bike conversion kit that can be installed in just a few simple steps and easily regulated via app.

The Boost kit equips a standard bike with an electric motor on the rear wheel, which should result in improved stability and a rounder, more comfortable ride. In the process, the motor is installed in the rear wheel hub and is said to be capable of 250 watts, as well as up to 350 watts at its peak. Thus Boost realizes a pedal assistance at a speed of up to 25 km/h.

Battery in the drinking bottle look

The battery reminds thereby optically of a drinking bottle and is mounted to the frame before the rear wheel. Thereby the Akku is lockable and is to be protected so against thieves. The 216 Wh strong battery should allow a range of up to 50 kilometers and can be easily removed for charging.

A battery status indicator informs about the charge level, while the 1.5 kg battery can be fully charged in about four hours. With the help of the built-in USB port, you should even be able to charge your smartphone and other devices on it.

The battery and motor communicate wirelessly with your smartphone via a controller, while you can use the free app for iOS and Android to make fine adjustments or retrieve important data.

According to the manufacturer, the Boost aftermarket kit is already ready for the market. Around 50 kits have already been delivered to customers in the UK and have been revised and improved by the team based on feedback.

Price and availability

The Boost Kit, which allows you to turn almost any standard bike into an e-bike, is currently being funded via crowdfunding on the platform Indiegogo. However, the delivery is currently exclusively in the UK. The price is currently at least 625 euros, and delivery is scheduled for November 2022.
