Cambridge Audio Evo S: Hi-fi players get speakers

Cambridge Audio has released custom-made speakers in a compact format to match its high-quality all-in-one players. The speakers, named Evo S, are supposed to convince with a modern look and best sound.

Perfect complement to Evo 75 and 100

With its Evo 75 and Evo 150, Cambridge Audio has arguably two of the highest-quality all-in-one players in the entire hi-fi market. Connecting them to conventional mid-range or even cheap speakers would be tantamount to a faux pas. So it’s hardly surprising that the British have taken care of suitable speakers on their own without further ado.

With the Cambridge Audio Evo S, the company brings compact speakers to the market that can be seen and, above all, heard – at least that’s what the manufacturer promises. This promise makes perfect sense when you take a closer look. After all, the British have done everything in their power to tailor the family members to each other. Not only visually, but also sonically. Thanks to the pleasingly unobtrusive design, the entire hi-fi system should be able to fit into pretty much any living ambience.

Internal and external values are right

Both visually and in terms of sound, Cambridge Audio’s products should be able to please the ears of hifi enthusiasts. At the heart of the bookshelf speakers is a dome tweeter with a size of 25 mm and a 165 mm mid-woofer. While the former comes with a silk cone, the mid-woofer offers a high-quality cone with anodized aluminum, according to Cambridge Audio.

On paper at least, this makes for an exceedingly great sound. The rest is also right. In addition to a solid case, Cambridge Audio relies on high-quality materials and supplies the matching speaker cables. What could go wrong there?

Price and availability

Of course, all this also has its price. And it really has it in itself. For example, the Brits charge an MSRP of 749 euros for their Evo S. Compared to the prices for the in-house all-in-one players, this almost seems like a bargain. The Evo 75 has an MSRP of 1,999 euros and the Evo 150 is priced at a proud 2,499 euros.
