Canon announces an expansion of its remotely controllable camera offering with the compact and rugged CR-X300. The CR-X300 complements the current range of PTZ cameras, offering high-quality 4K video output and compatibility with various IP protocols.
Canon CR-X300: 4K image in rugged case
Serving the demand for professional 4K video products, the CR-X300 is equipped with Canon’s advanced image processing technology. It features a DIGIC DV6 processor and enables 4K UHD recording at up to 30 frames per second at 4:2:2 and 10 bits.
Combining a 1/2.3-inch type CMOS sensor with the high-quality hybrid autofocus system, the CR-X300 is able to focus on subjects quickly and accurately even in low light. A swing-out IR cut filter is used to improve IR performance, making the camera perfect for shooting in very low light.
The CRX300 features a 20x optical zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8 for optimal image quality in critical lighting situations. The built-in ND filter allows a maximum setting of 1/8 ND with gradual gradation, and assists the camera in shooting situations in bright daylight.
Various streaming options
The Canon CR-X300 is compatible with a range of protocols for video transmission, camera control and 4K video streaming over IP. Using Canon’s network technology, this PTZ camera supports multiple protocols, including RTMP/RTMPS, NDI|HX1, RTP/RTSP Standard Communication Protocol, and Canon’s newly developed XC protocol.
This enables more efficient production by streaming directly to the selected content delivery network. The XC protocol offers the added benefit that other PTZ cameras and camcorders, such as those in the Cinema EOS series, can be used within the same production environment as the CR-X300.
In terms of connectivity, PoE++ (Power over Ethernet), HDMI and 6G-SDI are offered. This flexibility allows the camera to be easily integrated into existing production environments and workflows.
Easy operation, robust design
The CR-X300 features an enhanced pan and tilt mechanism that moves at a variable speed of 0.3°/second to 60°/second, enabling smooth tracking of the action. The high-performance outdoor camera is compatible with Canon’s recently introduced RC-IP100 remote control and Remote Camera Control Application via IP, as well as select third-party controllers.
The CR-X300 is designed to meet the growing demand for outdoor video broadcasting – whether live or recorded – at sporting events or theme parks, for example. As such, the PTZ camera is aimed primarily at professional users.
It has a resistant case that meets the IP65 standard for dust and water resistance. It also has a weatherproof paint finish and a built-in wiper that ensures clear images even in the rain. The rugged construction of this camera can withstand wind speeds of 60 m/s and temperature ranges from -15° C to 40° C. With a weight of approximately 7 kg and a convenient handle, the CR-X300 is also an extremely compact and portable camera, making it ideal for shooting on the go.
Price and Availability
The CR-X300 PTZ camera is expected to be available in February 2022 at an MSRP of €11,899.00.
