Canon EOS Webcam Utility Pro lets you use over 40 cameras as professional webcams

Canon has introduced a new webcam software that lets you use over 40 different camera models from the manufacturer as a webcam. Canon EOS Webcam Utility Pro offers a whole range of professional features.

Owners of a Canon camera such as the EOS R5, EOS M50 or the PowerShot models G5X Mark II, G7X Mark III and PowerShot SX70 HS can henceforth use their camera as a webcam.

This is made possible by the new Canon EOS Webcam Utility Pro software, which the manufacturer has now introduced. Although this has already been possible for years with the free version, many exciting features are added in the new edition that has now been presented.

However, the most important and exciting new features are limited to the paid Pro subscription, which costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year and is currently only available in the US.

This makes it possible, for example, to integrate up to five cameras at the same time and use them as a webcam array – which should of course be particularly exciting for content creators. Unfortunately, a wireless connection option is also reserved for the pay model, as is Full HD support and support for 60 frames per second.

Those who want to use their Canon camera as a webcam, but don’t want to spend money on the software, will have to be content with 720p resolution and 30 frames per second. However, the manufacturer has expanded the app support in the Canon EOS Webcam Utility Pro software, so that you can now use corresponding cameras in Discord, Facebook Live, Microsoft Teams, OBS or Twitch, for example.

A list of all compatible Canon cameras can be found on the manufacturer’s website.

Not listed, however, is the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, which they just introduced on November 02. The full-frame DSLM camera marks the manufacturer’s fastest camera to date. It relies on a 24.2-megapixel sensor and enables image series at up to 40 frames per second with an electronic shutter, while 12 frames per second are still possible with the mechanical shutter.

And if you prefer a pure, dedicated webcam with high resolution, then the new Elgato Facecam Pro is worth a look. The webcam with a new large-area sensor from Sony enables recordings in 4K resolution with 60 frames per second.
