Canon introduces five versatile new 4K camcorders

For all those who do not want to record videos with a smartphone or a DSLM camera, Canon has some exciting innovations in tow. The manufacturer has now introduced a total of five new, versatile Canon camcorders with 4K resolution. The Canon XA65, XA60, XA75 and XA70 professional devices, as well as the LEGRIA HF G70 prosumer camcorder.

Canon camcorders: five new models in the approach

Whether it’s a documentary, the next family birthday, a company party, or a trip to the zoo, Canon’s new 4K camcorders have you covered for all tasks. They record content in high-quality 4K and enable HD UVC streaming via USB-C.

Plus, the new models use Canon’s advanced autofocus and face detection technology to deliver professional-grade performance. Recording is possible in MP4 format, while the four professional XA Series camcorders also record in XF-AVC, allowing broadcast applications.

Powerful 4K video performance

Canon’s new XA65/XA60 and XA75/XA70 camcorders are equipped with the DIGIC DV6 image processor and feature a 1/2.3-inch type CMOS sensor (XA65/XA60,) while the XA75/XA70 even uses an extra-large 1.0-inch type CMOS sensor.

They all record in maximum 4K UHD or full HD with oversampling, and combine smart design with ease of use, powerful zoom capabilities, and a lightweight case.

Focal lengths range from 29.3mm to 601mm in 35mm equivalent on the XA65 and XA60, covering pretty much every eventuality from a light wide-angle to a superzoom. XA75 and XA70 offer a focal length range of 25.5 mm to 382.5 mm (35 mm equivalent), which corresponds to a 15x optical zoom. In addition, there is a 40x digital zoom on all models, extending the zoom range to 800x on the XA65/XA60 and 600x on the XA75/XA70.

A 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen makes operation a breeze, while the high-resolution electronic viewfinder can even be folded down to further enhance operation.

Strong autofocus with successful stabilization

Canon’s new 4K camcoders are also impressive when it comes to autofocus. The XA75 and XA70 models are equipped with Dual Pixel CMOS AF and offer fast and precise focusing, which, in conjunction with Dual Pixel Focus Assist, also makes it easier to manually focus on a subject.

The XA65 and XA60 models use an advanced Hybrid AF system that is designed to provide reliable focus even in low light. All models offer adjustable focus speed for fast or steady autofocus, which can also be controlled via the 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen. The focus point here can be set simply by touching the display.

Face detection AF and face tracking are also offered, which is a welcome feature especially in busy environments or vlogs. Manual focusing is also possible via the lens control ring or the switchable zoom/focus ring on the XA75/XA70. There’s also a 5-axis image stabilizer for steady, blur-free shooting.

Recording is possible in XF-AVC 4K UHD at 160 Mbps at 25p when broadcasting, or with the universal MP4 codec in 4K UHD at 150 Mbps at 25p. The camcorders also offer a variety of special recording options such as slow motion and fast motion, on-screen display recording where the date and time are superimposed on the video image, and an infrared mode for recording in the dark.

For professional audio recording, XA65/XA60 and XA75/XA70 have two XLR audio inputs and 4-channel linear PCM for adjusting recording level and input sensitivity.
