Casio introduces two smartwatches

Casio brings the two smartwatches W-H5600-1 and DW-H5600MB-1 to Germany. They combine the classic robust Casio design with smartwatch and fitness tracker functions. Casio is thus consistently continuing the company’s traditional path of producing digital outdoor watches.

Classic design with smartwatch functions

Visually, the two new smartwatches do not differ from classic Casio watches. The Japanese company has thus decided against the trend towards futuristic smartwatches, which look more like small smartphones, and remains true to its previous aesthetics. This had already been shown in 2016, when the company presented its first smartwatch with the WSD-F10. The W-H5600-1 and the DW-H5600MB-1 are equipped with sensors from Polar, which make it possible to measure the pulse and the oxygen saturation of the blood, count steps and track sleep. Furthermore, various sports activities can be detected and analyzed. Thanks to the water resistance at a depth of up to 200 meters, the two Casio smartwatches can also be worn while swimming. Overall, they offer all the classic fitness tracker functions. Only a GPS module is missing, so no accurate kilometer recording is possible. Users who want to know how long they have jogged will therefore have to rely on estimates based on the steps taken.

In addition, there are basic smartwatch functions. For example, the watches inform about incoming calls and emails and point out calendar notifications. Moreover, the watches can help find the paired smartphone. They trigger an alarm when the corresponding function is used.

The battery of both watches is charged via USB cable. However, they are also equipped with solar cells. If the battery is empty, the watch should still be able to display the time, according to Casio. Only all fitness and smartwatch functions are then no longer available.

Prices and availability

The two Casio watches W-H5600-1 and DW-H5600MB-1 can be pre-ordered now. They are scheduled to begin shipping on May 19. Prices are 279 and 299 euros respectively.
