CAT S75: Rugged flagship promises protection against wireless holes

The Bullitt Group has presented its latest flagship smartphone. With the Cat S75, the manufacturer does not only want to score with its usual robust design. On top of that, it should also look good under the hood of the smartphone. The MediaTek chip sounds particularly exciting. It is supposed to make it possible to connect the smartphone to satellites at a distance of 35,000 km in order to send an emergency call in case of connection problems. Thus, you should no longer be afraid even of radio holes.

Cat S75 scores with robustness

The brand Caterpillar (short: Cat) is known for many decades as a manufacturer of workwear, but also construction machinery. Accordingly, the brand also stands for durability and robustness. The Bullitt Group, a British manufacturer, has taken advantage of this reputation and produces devices that are supposed to withstand even adverse conditions under the Cat Phones label. According to the manufacturer, this should also be the case with the latest Cat S75.

It is supposed to withstand drops from up to 1.8 meters without any problems even when it falls onto hard surfaces like a steel plate. But the smartphone also proves to be resistant in other respects. It is supposed to offer reliable protection against the damaging penetration of dirt and water. A certification according to IP68 and IP69K confirms this. Thus, it should not only be able to withstand strong rain flows or immersion in streams. Extreme temperatures or high humidity should not be a problem either. For this, the manufacturer claims to have conducted special military tests of the Mil-Spec 810H standard.

Hard shell, strong core with 2.2 GHz and 6 GB RAM

But the Cat S75 also wants to convince in terms of hardware. For one, this includes the 6.6-inch display, which resolves in FHD+ and offers 120 Hz. The 5,000 mAh battery is supposed to support outdoor use. According to the manufacturer, it should last up to two days. When it is empty, the smartphone can be charged with up to 15 watts via fast charging or wirelessly via Qi charging. At the heart of the device is a MediaTek Dimensity 930 octa-core processor with 2.2 GHz, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. If the internal storage is not enough, it can be expanded via microSD. On the back is a triple camera consisting of a main camera (50 MP), wide-angle lens (8 MP) and macro lens (2 MP). A selfie camera (8 MP) is also on board.

The Cat S75 is supposed to come with Android 12 ex-works. The manufacturer promises Android updates for the next two years. Security updates, on the other hand, are to be guaranteed for the next five years. However, the real highlight of the rugged smartphone is supposed to be its connectivity. The integrated Bullitt Satellite Messenger is supposed to provide uninterrupted connections even in areas with poor network coverage. The MediaTek chip, which is capable of satellite communication and enables 3GPP-NTN technology, is used for this. However, a subscription is required to use the service. This costs 4.99 euros per month, but anyone who frequently spends time in remote regions for business or pleasure should probably think about it.

Price and availability

With the Cat S75, a robust smartphone with exciting features comes rolling towards us. Interested parties will probably not have to wait much longer. From mid-March, it should be available for purchase at an MSRP starting at 599 Euros. More information is available on the official website.
