Acer has been running a Creator product line called ConceptD for some time now, which it now wants to expand with new products. Specifically, this involves two convertibles and a powerful workstation. The two 2-in-1 laptops have been awarded the CES 2020 Innovation Award and the first devices in the ConceptD 7 Ezel series have the new Ezel hinge for five different usage modes. So they can be folded in a different way than the Surface Pros, for example. They are designed to support creative people in working together, exchanging ideas and implementing them. The five different usage modes of the devices make them a true all-round talent:
notebook mode: For use as a classic notebook.
Tablet-Mode: The display is laid flat on the keyboard for use as a tablet.
Floating-Mode: The display floats above the keyboard for combined use of touch and keyboard input.
The display is angled above the keyboard for an optimal position for sketching with the Wacom EMR pen
Display-Mode: The display folds over to the other side for better content sharing.
A lot of performance for creative people
The new convertibles are called ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro and ConceptD 7 Ezel. Both devices feature a 15.6-inch 4K-IPS display with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. The displays are made of Gorilla Glass 6 and have an anti-glare coating so that graphics can be easily seen on the display even outdoors or in bright lighting.
The maximum brightness is 400 nits and the displays have built-in colour correction to ensure that colours are faithfully reproduced. Thus, a 100 percent coverage of the Adobe RGB color space and a color accuracy of Delta E <2 should be guaranteed. Colour profiles and system settings can be easily adjusted using the ConceptD palette mask.
A Wacom EMR pen is supplied for this purpose, which is designed to provide precise control and a natural writing experience on the touch screen. Compared to the previous EMR pen alternatives, these pens do not require a battery, have a shorter response time, higher resolution and can display significantly more pressure levels.
ConceptD Ezel 7 and Ezel 7 Pro
Both Ezel 7-series convertibles have an all-white housing made of a magnesium-aluminum alloy. They are considered chic, robust and easy to clean. Inside the ConceptD 7 Ezel beats an Intel Core – processor of the 10th generation of the H-series, which will be available soon. It will also feature the latest NVIDIA graphics processor, up to 32GB of DDR4 memory and up to 2TB PCIe SSDs. This will allow videos to be edited and rendered quickly or 3D animations to be created and presented in real time.
For people who need even more performance, the ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro features an Intel Xeon processor, NVIDIA Quadro RTX GPU, ECC memory support and Windows 10 Pro. In terms of connectivity, the device offers two ThunderBolt 3 ports, an SD card slot, a display port 1.4 and an HDMI 2.0 port.
The keyboard has a glass touchpad and a fingerprint sensor is also integrated in the on/off switch, with which the login via Windows Hello is lightning fast. The cooling system of both notebooks runs extremely quietly at less than 40 dB with simultaneous high computing and graphics performance – the noise level is roughly equivalent to that of a library.
ConceptD 700 – the workstation for creative people
Equipped with an Intel Xeon E processor and up to NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000-GPU, the elegant ConceptD 700 workstation has everything you need to meet the high demands of filmmakers, animators and AEC designers. The device features up to 64GB of 4x DIMM 2.666 MHz DDR4 memory, fast memory options such as on-board PCIe M.2 SSD and four internal memory slots that can accommodate both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives.
According to the manufacturer, the workstation is kept in a minimalist Scandinavian design. It has a white finish, a top in wood look and smooth rounded edges. Not only does the workhorse look good, but it also has a lot of fan power. After all, optimal ventilation is essential for sophisticated design rendering. Therefore, three fans suck the air through the triangularly structured front panel and direct it through the case.
In addition, the workstation has an inductive loading area for smartphones on the top, an extendable headset holder and offers space for proper cable management. The ConceptD range’s user interface allows easy monitoring of CPU, GPU and memory usage with a status indicator. An integrated lock and burglar alarm also protect the device
from theft and unauthorized access.
Prices and availability
All devices will be available in the first half of the year, but prices have not yet been announced.
