CES 2020: Samsung introduces Portable SSD T7 Touch with fingerprint sensor

At this year’s CES in Las Vegas, Samsung introduced the successor of the popular portable SSD T5. The Portable SSD T7 Touch is supposed to distinguish itself above all through its extensive security features. For example, unlocking takes place via fingerprint sensor.

A high level of data security

People are becoming more and more interested in their data. To ensure that no personal information reaches unwanted persons, appropriate security mechanisms are in greater demand than ever. Samsung is aware of this. The South Korean electronics giant has responded to the trend with the new Portable SSD T7 Touch. Thanks to a reliable fingerprint sensor on the top of the small SSD, the data is released for the authorised user. Of course, it is also possible to grant access to several users. In total, up to four fingerprints can be stored on the Portable SSD T7 Touch.

Fast and large memory

Samsung will launch the Portable SSD T7 Touch in different sizes. Starting at 500GB, the buyer can choose up to 2TB of storage. The external SSD is supposed to be able to work at breakneck speed. According to Samsung, it reads and writes data in lightning speed. The increased operating speed is due to a change from classic SATA technology to the much faster NVMe technology. With the help of the new technology, read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s and write speeds of 1000 MB/s can be achieved. .

Practical status LED

The new fingerprint sensor brings some light gimmicks with it. When switched on, the status light shines blue continuously. During a data transmission the display changes to a rotating blue. As soon as a fingerprint is read, the light pulses again. In this way, the user always knows which process is currently taking place. Those who are light-sensitive at this point should consider whether the Portable SSD T7 Touch is the right storage medium.

One lightweight in two colours

The new Portable SSD T7 Touch is a true lightweight with just 58 grams. Nobody should get back pain here. Samsung is unusually reserved in the choice of colors. The buyer can choose between black and silver.

Price and availability

The Portable SSD T7 Touch will be available in Germany from mid February. According to Samsung, the scope of delivery will not only include the SSD itself. A USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable will also find room in the packaging. Prices should start at around 145 euro for the 500 GB version. Those who need twice that (1 TB) of storage will pay around 215 euros. The large 2 TB version will cost about 405 Euro.

If you do not need a fingerprint sensor, you will have to be patient. According to Samsung, another version of the Portable SSD T7 will be released in the course of the year. This one does without a fingerprint sensor. When and at what price this version will be released is still unknown.
